So my gross was $346, net $251. Took a look at my paystub, saw damn near $17 in union fees? Now, the only thing I can think of for the reason is my vacation week, but I didn't work that week, and union dues came out of my vacation check. Is this odd, should I mention it to the HR person, or is there a special fee this pay cycle?
if you've had a vacation or been off for a week the union will take a double payment on the next week you get paid. They didn't take the fee from the vacation pay and the fee is based on a 52 week pay cycle.

So the union takes a cut even when I didn't work? I checked the vacation stub and I was wrong, no union dues for that one. Sounds like the second responder has it worse than I do, but taking double dues when I didn't even work? Is it because my vacation is "courtesy of the union" or something?

You got paid. You wouldn't have a paid vacation if not for the contract that the union negotiated, I don't see why you would think you wouldn't have to pay it JUST because you weren't physically at work. It's like insurance, do you think just because you don't drive your car one day you shouldn't have to pay insurance? That's nonsense.
Yep union needs that money to pay off the 15 dollar an hour food workers that go on strike and the anti walmart ads. Not for your family and kids. Makes sense.

When I left Kroger the CSM wouldn't let me sign the sheet for vacation pay. She said I didn't get a vacation check since I quit and that I didn't deserve it. I had to get corporate involved to get my weeks vacation pay. It took about a month but I got it. They took out union dues. A month after I left Kroger. Had to pay union dues. Talk about not fair!
