OK, so I've been planning to take a leave of absence or drastically reduce my availability for after the holidays are over due to school.
Anyway... so... I tell my manager that I'm looking into taking a leave of absence, and she's like "no you can't take a leave of absence for school." So I show her our union contract and point out where in the contract it says that I can take a leave of absence for non-medical reasons. She says, "No, that doesn't matter, we won't approve it." Bitch WHAT?
This is the second time I've pulled out the union contract to prove a point, and the second time it's been disregarded like it doesn't matter. I know retail is a low-brow job (no offense y'all I do it too) but seriously, why are these managers such idiots? Pointing at the union contract and saying "it doesn't matter", and then saying "I've been in the union longer than you" like it means anything when it comes to what the contract says. Um, hello? Has hanging out at cash registers for the past 10+ years given you brain damage? I'm concerned for these managers, because they are such incompetent fools.
I'm trying desperately to switch departments away from the front end and I'm going to be talking to my HR representative ASAP. Most likely nothing will happen and I'll have to quit to preserve my sanity. If it comes to that, I would be OK, but I really like the job that I have for the most part, aside from the managers who wouldn't know a snake if it bit them in the a**.

My previous CSM let people cut their hours like this -- it's just this new CSM who is a petulant jerk. The hours at this job are VERY flexible, but for some reason she just has no heart.
People in my department are quitting or switching stores left and right. No one wants to deal with this.

No, I don't think she thinks my work is that great tbh. It's not about that. I really think these people just don't want to work. They like when we're overstaffed so they can stand in circles and talk instead of getting on a register themselves.
I was denied a leave of absence for school for 3 months. Went to the union and she told me (and I quote) "Maybe you have an injured back or neck, maybe you get a doctor's note that you need 3 months off." I shook my head and said thanks a LOT! I realize people do this but I have more integrity than that.. so I quit instead and went back. Lost my seniority and went onto a newer union contract. I was pissed at first but it caused me to actually look for something better - which I did! So in that regard I thank them for denying me

What an idoit! She actually thinks there are doctors that will just sign you a note like that? People are so dumb.
