I got told today by my store manager that I've been terminated because of "insubordination" this only my FIRST bad thing I did and I was wondering can they really fire you just because of insubordination??? I'm a bagger btw, females always refuse to go outside because of the weather but they don't get in trouble..
Depends. When did you get hired? In your first 90 days (this may vary by contract), they can fire you for anything. What "bad thing" did you do? But yes, outright refusal to do something asked of you, if part of your job duties, is at least grounds for a write-up.
Refusing to do a regular legal task that you were asked by a manager to do is insubordination. If you did not sign the paper work, file a grievance. I am a unit of labor. I am there to do whatever needs to be done to keep the machine running smoothly. I am not there to pick and choose whatever I feel like doing. I am not a "it's not my job person". I like changing the bale no matter which departments' turn it is that day. I also change bags in trash cans in the backroom. It would be better to pay some kid $7.50/ hr to do it but I will do it for $16/hr just as easily.
Did a store manager terminate you or a customer service manager? Only a store manager or co manager can terminate you.
Don't fret, there are other menial jobs to be had. You are young(I am assuming) and have many years of working ahead of you. My hope is you are aiming for higher education. I helped a young friend get a job at our competitor. He got burned by a coworker and it stank how he was let go. Dangit, I think he likes it more there! You can try to grieve it thru the union but if you already signed the paperwork, there isn't much they can do for you. Not worth fighting imo. Apply to another retail store and move on with life.
Good luck.
Edited to delete stuff about girls refusing to go outside. I assumed the disagreement was about inequality.

Failing to do a job asked if you by management IS grounds for disciplinary action INCLUDING termination (depends if you are on probation or a repeat offender). It DOES NOT matter if you wanted to stay on carts bcause the lot was bad. You should have said "the lot is full of carts. Do you want me inside still or on lot?" Something seems funny. Id look into this if I were you

1. How many 'bad things' do you think you get? It's not like a pre loaded credit card, and some things can get you fired on the spot---even if you're 30 years in.
2. Trying to strengthen your position by pointing out other's faults is a childish argument that never works......unless you're in a protected class.
