So I finally have my first job ; Kroger, Courtesy Clerk (just started Christmas eve week) I was so excited; that was until i started to have schedule problems.
The manager had hired me for 5 days a week; she was very specific to me two days 7am-12pm and then three days 7am-2pm. Morning shifts after understanding my ride share at the moment was physically impossible for me to make evening shifts..
First week right off the bat they had me working two days (1pm-9pm) and then a (5pm-10pm). Already wrong; since it was my first week i did my best and did find a ride share and they told me they would have it fixed by the end of the week. WRONG.
They had me then working 5pm-12am(MIDNIGHT) and flop me around to come in at 8am. The manager that hired me wasn't there that week and the one that was there completely ingored my simple question if I could sit down and talk to them about this, that i wasn't hired for evening shift and there was NO way I could get a ride at midnight. Then other employees told me to talk to someone else that apparently "Makes the schedule". I did so; they told me schedules were final and that they don't really make the schedule, they go off from what the digital schedule says (where you go in and place your availability) and apparently i was available for all hours all week...see; no one told me about all that when i started so I had to figure that out on my own. Since I still couldn't work those evening shifts, they told me just to come in the other days (7am-3pm) they would have it fixed by the next post.
Again never did. They completely took me off the schedule for a week. A WHOLE WEEK.
Now I come back and my manager ( the one that hired me,) finally comes by and talks to me that they apologize and my schedule should be fixed. Saying they will oversee the person making the schedule and have me right. NOPE. Just three days a a week this past week (18.25hours) and then next week its Three days once more but only (17.25hours). This is even after I went through the online schedule and put that i was available five days out of the week.
Three days a week wouldn't be so bad if they were 7-3 but thats not what I was hired for, I was hired for five days a week and at least 35 hours; people are running me around here and there about "getting it fixed" and all.
I don't know why nothings getting done and i don't know were to turn. I'll be going back Tuesday and once again to see why my hours/days aren't proper. but i doubt things will change and I honestly don't know what to do. I need some advice. Some say 'find a new job' but honestly, there is nothing else close by; Kroger was the first one about of about 30 places that actually emailed me, called me, interviewed me and hired me within 4 days.
HELP. SOS. ADVICE NEEDED.

I think it takes a few weeks for eschedule to take effect. Depending upon what day you entered your availability, and when the most current schedule is posted. I myself am part-time. First I went in and marked my availability 9am to 3pm seven days a week. Then I requested days off I needed for my full time job which varies as I work shift work. I went out about 3 months requesting days off. I've made myself available at least 3 days a week. For my first 2 months so far eschedule has worked as promised. As a part-time employee, hours will vary.

Admittedly, I didn't read your whole post, little too heavy on details. From what I gather you have a current availability in the system, so it will be there tough titties if they schedule you when you aren't available. And this is where your union steward and a notebook will come in handy. If you are scheduled outside your availability, advise a manager, any manager about the error.
In my experience, I was told not to worry about it. So I didn't, BUT I made a note to myself in my handy dandy notebook about the time, date and name of manager advised. This came in handy a few months later when a completely separate manager attempted to give me a written warning for attendance, citing the unavailable shift as an absence. I whipped out my notebook and put the k bosh on that in lightening speed. The union steward then asked the manager to look up the record, and he did. Once the manager confirmed my story for himself, the union steward then politely requested the absence in question be removed from the record and the write up be discarded. Manager obliged, I don't think he was ev even keen to do the paper work, lol. Steward and I walked out of the office, no write up and high fives each other.
You can restrict your availability in eschedule to only be able to work those hours, but if your schedule writer is incompetent or just doesn't care, which is more likely, then you're going to have these problems. If those said hours are not available then you're not going to get them and will, more than likely, just be left off the schedule. :(

Over 80% of the time I put unavailable in the system Im scheduled those days anyway. I was also told if I put unavailable too often then they had the right to cut me from 40 hrs a week down to whatever they felt like. Basically your at the mercy of your manager at Kroger and you can either work whatever they give you or not at all, despite whatever you were promised, schedules are not very negotiable.
I was a Drug/GM manager for 3 years and I made the Drug/GM schedule and went through the e-schedule training when it rolled out. Here is what I remember:
-Unless you are a department head, no one is guaranteed any hours at Kroger.
-The software makes the schedule based on seniority and availability. If you are a new hire and can only work mornings, don't expect to get many hours. Those with high seniority will get the morning shifts.
-Unfortunately, right after Xmas the hours usually get chopped. That is the slowest time for retail/grocery. You'll see a small peak in hours the week of the Super Bowl, the week of Valentines, and then not again until around Easter time.
-You could check in to being cross trained in a different area. Maybe pick up a morning shift in one of the perishable departments.

You don't have a union contract that guarantees hours? We can't be scheduled less than 15 hours per week.
I take that back...I'm not 100% sure but I think if you worked, you had to work at least a 3 hour shift. And you had to be scheduled at least 2 days a week. So, I guess you were guaranteed at least 6 hours a week. We were a small store...my Drug/GM department consisted of myself (Department head), 1 full timer and 1 par timer. The majority of the time the part timer got pulled to another area to help out...then I got my butt chewed because my department was falling behind. Yeah....

Under our contract we have to be scheduled minimum of four hours.
After 5 years of employment, which has ended, my suggestion is to start looking for another place.....where you are not lied to.......and have to use your savings, if you have any......to pay regular bills......will never set foot in Krogers or any of its affiliates again.....Good Luck and Run.....you will be better off for it ......Dont waste your precious time.
