I stopped into a different Kroger on the other side of town last weekend. I bought two containers of pastry, one cream cheese and one lemon. Got home, bit into one of the lemon pastries and ugh! It was brown. I picked around the center and tasted it again thinking it was chocolate. Nope. I called the store and of course they said I could return it to either their store or the one closest to my house. (He did identify the brown goop as prunes, yuck!)
Here's the problem. The kid who answered sounded like he was about 16 and wasn't really sure of himself when he was talking to me. Answers like "I guess you can", "I'm not sure". Never did it occur to him to go check with someone else! I bet you anything that table full of pastries wasn't pulled and checked. I hope nobody has food allergies. I even called back the next day to talk to the bakery manager. Off for two days. So I gave up. Not my problem anymore, I got my money back.
I guess from now on, right after I check the expiration dates on everything, I will have to taste sample items.
What do expiration dates have to do with it, sounds like they just put the wrong label on it. If you're talking about prunes, you must mean the packzi donuts.
I mean yeah definitely get a return, sounds like they don't check their labels very good.

LOL! I check the expiration date of everything I buy because my Kroger usually has alot of expired products on the shelf and in the sale bin. I'm saying I check the expiration dates and now I will open up the container and poke a hole in any pastry I'm doubtful about lol! Yes, it was the packzi donuts, prune. Gross, especially when you are expecting a bite of tangy lemon. It's quite a shock biting into one lol! Then that moment of terror when you see brown goop oozing out!

Oh gotcha, i read that wrong the first time lol.
Yeah.... those prune ones sound nasty, i've never tried them, we didn't even order the prune ones this time.
I can't believe some stores already have packzi donuts out. Those are a Mardi Gras item and that's not for almost another three weeks. We don't start putting ours out until either the Friday or Saturday before.
We got a TON of them, we had no choice but to start breaking them out a week or two ago.
So far we've only gotten in 6 cases. Last year we had at least 14. I'm not sure who decides how many we get. We ended up just using them in the regular donut case after Mardi Gras was over.
My suggestion would be to shop at another business that cares about their employees and not just the almighty dollar......just saying.
I worked for Kroger for 3 1/2 years so I know all about how they treat their employees. I do shop at other stores besides Kroger, but not having worked for any of the competitors, it's hard to know how they treat their employees. I find that it's all basically the same as far as employees go.
What really makes me! mad is how long the lines are at my local Kroger now. When I worked there, I was called repeatedly from the back to come up and check. When I was cashier I was constantly being watched to make sure there were no more than 2 people in my line. So after I quit, they quit calling for surge help. Seriously? I work my butt of for almost 4 years to get people through the line quickly so I can just stand around forever and wait to check out? Makes me mad each time lol I always ask if they can call for help. They always say "there isn't anyone". I have to learn to shop early before the rush but that requires effort.
