Anyone's chip readers work?

Does anyone work at a store where the chip readers on the pinpad work?  I hear it's a colossal nightmare.  How bad is it?

I was told that ours aren't going to work for a long time, if ever, because we have an off site fuel center.  Hmm.

I'm thinking about secretly taping ours off to speed transactions.

Our don't work, we've been given three target deadlines that have come and passed. I've heard the same stories, overcharging, double charging, no charging, the pinpad locking up, etc. That said, I've also heard we are getting them as soon as we can figure out the bugs, because right now we're losing millions since non-chip stores are responsible for fraud/chargebacks since October 1st.

Ours doesn't work. They told us we'd have it October 1st, but here we are in the middle of January and still no chip readers.

They planned on having it ready by October 4th (at least at our store) but there was reportedly too many glitches with the new software that would read these chip cards. Right now, we are still waiting on it. I heard it might not be until sometime in March.

Ours don't work either. They were SUPPOSED to work, chip reader wise, when they installed the new pinpads. HOWEVER...they STILL don't work. "Sometime within the next 3-4 months" they say. My guess? Sometime in the middle of 'whenever they get around to it' to sometime in the middle of 'not at all.'

meh... By the time it starts working, it will be obsolete, and we'll need NEW machines with an upgrade and the whole "not working yet" cycle begins anew

Chip readers are the most ironic invention. They're supposedly "safer" but that RFID signal can be intercepted by someone else if you don't have some magic wallet. I've been to many stores and restaurants and never once have I seen one of these actually work.

VERY few work. They say it's safer.... HOWEVER.... orb "may" be safer from prying eyes of the public, but what about shady employees? They STILL get your payment info correct? Unless they never see your card numbers at all when you use the chip reader. I've heard mixed reviews. Some say it's spot on, others say it's not. Meh....that's why I usually pay with cash unless necessary.

Electronics here, they did a few pilot stores to iron out all of the bugs and now they are doing a mass roll out here in the coming weeks. All stores should have a representative you should start seeing the chip reader working within the next 30 days.

The last memo I read has groups of 30 to 40 stores being activated at a time. My division has about 15 being activated on February 9th. With the rest being activated later in the month

A single digit on the magnetic strip tells the card reader to force use of the chip verification method instead of swiping. So fraudsters can just change that digit on the cloned card and it will just work like a non-chip card. The dip and pay cards do not emit an RFID signal. Wave and pay aka contactless payment cards are what you are thinking of.
