nature's market lead

We have a posting in my store for a natures market lead opening.  I'm in another department, but thinking about signing for it.  Is it more hasstle than it's worth for a $.50 bump in pay?  I'm guessing they are still responsible for ordering and scheduling the staff, just not paid as a department head for some reason.  Thanks in advance.

Personally I would never take a job as a lead, a back up, or a department head in a department I've had no experience with.  Nor should Kroger promote anybody to such a position if they have no experience.

....But they probably will, since it's Kroger.

Depends on your previous position. People often overlook other advantages of being a lead/department head and that's usually easier access to overtime, better on your resume, more experience etc. Nature's market is not difficult at all if you are coming from a grocery based background like Dry grocery/dairy/frozen. Same ordering procedures, same everything. The main difference will be having to have a better knowledge of the products you stock(there is supposed to be specific training for that). That being said, all things considered, it depends on your store. What sales in natural foods per week do you do?

This year in our area that position is getting eliminated and will be grocery now.

It's one of the worst positions because you have no help. At least in our store, produce is suppose to help the lead... yeah they don't. They never schedule anyone to do it.

I would find out how many people are working in the department and why did the former lead leave.  Were they there a long time and decide to move up, or were they just one in a long list of people over the past few months?  If it's the latter, then don't take the job.  If nobody before you could run the department, then there's no reason to expect you or anyone else could either.  Usually, in that case, it means the department is understaffed or they don't give them enough hours.

Man... Our store can't keep Nutrition Leads. I think we've had 5 in the last year.

No one wants to do it for very long. Must be a real **** job.
