Kroger hates sick employees

So our new front end manager is ignoring our own store policies, as they typically do.  Typically, my store only wants you to call in if you are running a fever (which I am) and you can miss 2-3 days before they demand a doctors note.  So, running a high fever and comiting, I call in and she instead demands a note today.  Luckily I was able to get an appointment just so I can shove it in her face (usully nigh impossible to get an appointment for the same day).

But still pissed off cos I can usually get over a lot of things with a solid day if rest and be back to work the day after.  Now I have to shell out money just to prove I'm sick.

That's Kroger. If you died, they would demand a death certificate or they would write you up for not showing up for work.

I went to work on Thursday after being off Tuesday & Wednesday due to a cold and a customer complained because I was coughing. Mind you that I turned away when I coughed, I covered my mouth when I coughed, and I used hand sanitizer after I coughed. I ended up calling in again on Friday because I got really sick again. That goes to show that EVERYBODY hates sick employees.

I use those Walmart or CVS clinics.  $40 a visit, it's cheap.

In another post you said you WALKED AWAY, not turned  away.   Here you say you used hand sanitizer and the other post you said you WASHED your hands. That's a big difference.  I'm not sure why you changed your story.  Maybe just to make you look better.  Vote for Hillary lol!

I'm so completely ****ing pissed right now...

My wife and I have both been ill this week, and I tried to call off yesterday... AND THEY WANTED A ****ING DOCTORS NOTE FOR JUST ONE DAY! Since I was off today, I just decided "screw it", and came into work anyway.

Is that new policy now? It's bad enough the guilt and grief you have to deal with by calling in. Next thing you know, they're going to want a ****ing stool sample.

My wife calls in... and no hassle. In fact, she "called off" via text message. God dammit... they'll probably throw her a party with a get well soon cake when she gets back.

Edit:  I guess we're all going to have to start getting creative with our call-outs.  Stuff they can't refute, even though you're lying your ass off.

If they ask for a doctor note tell them to show you in writing where it changed from 3 days to 1 day.  Tell them you were not notified of the change and so you didn't get one.  See if they can come up with a new policy WRITTEN down for you to sign.

Even with co-pay taking down the price, for a single day I am not going to go to a doctor and spend hard-earned money just to satisfy arseholes like Kroger.

Buy some Nyquil or Dayquil and show them that receipt. If they aren't happy, forget it.

Hell no. I wouldn't go back to them no matter how badly I needed the money or a job.

You were fired, so you aren't eligible for rehire.  Don't worry, they aren't going to call and beg you to come back, or give you more money, or anthing.

aaaaw Anon, how I enjoy your posts. They're like farts in the wind.

I wasn't fired.
I'm not sure what the hell you would call it, but I wasn't "fired".

My FEM basically is - was a b!tch and took me off of the schedule when I tried to call out --- 24 hours in advance, by the way --- due to having to work at my second job and having a schedule conflict.

A second job I had to take because I could not make enough to earn a living wage at Kroger. Twelve to sixteen hours a week was around $60 - $80 *at the most* and if I had to buy groceries for the week, that basically killed that entire week's paycheck. A paycheck for minimum wage. I didn't have a problem doing the job that much -- I always felt that it should be a higher wage -- but for the little I made creating the financial stress I went through, no. No. I wasn't going to use that as primary income nor could I do so.

So I took a second job and my manager basically said "I'm taking you off of the schedule". Then I had a second day coming up (Saturday, I believe...) where the schedule conflict happened again. Well the same day I called in and had the FEM tell me what she told me, then the HR lady back her up, part of what I was told was 'it's your responsibility to switch out with someone'. So I *DID* switch out. It was Wednesday evening. I wrote it up on a piece of paper. The other employee signed off. Basically it was originally him in the evening, me in morning. We would have switched that day. He signed it. *I* signed it. I did as THEY -they being the b!tch manager and HR - had stated. Switched out with consent of the other employee. The other employee gave it to management the next day.

I came in that evening and was told he was told to work his regular shift and someone else had been put on to work the shift I had worked.

So.......long story short, I gave 24 hours notice, had not called out ONCE in more than one YEAR working there, got b!tched out by management, found no help from the union or HR (big surprise), then later DID AS THEY ASKED and out of spite they ignored it.

So was I "fired"? I don't see it as that way because I never even received a separation notice. That's right. All this time and I have never received squat from these morons. They even took another six weeks to send me a check for vacation pay because, well, legally they had to do it. But they took their time.

If they claim I was "fired", well, it's not a big loss. I won't go back. And the idea of them not giving a crap about taking me back amuses me. Since I did nothing wrong. I got no help from HR or the union. guess that $7 a week I was paying for union dues was going to somewhere other than a place where people gave a damn.

But why am I writing my life story to a loser anon with absolutely no credibility or life?
This forum's archive is filled with stories similar to mine of poor treatment and bad management.
Sure, my story is unique, but so is everyone else's who has gotten the shaft from this piss poor corporation.

It's all in the archives.
Go phuck yourself, and chew on that, you loser troll.
