What are the odds of two people in the same department receiving a jury summons at the same time?  I got one and my supervisor got one.

That's not how it works.  They have certain criteria you have to meet before you are excused from jury duty.  Work isn't usually included.  The court doesn't let you "reschedule/postpone" jury duty.

Lol you obviously don't know jury duty.

Judges dont give a flying poop about work schedules.

I've seen a judge not allow a surgeon to reschedule, even though he had documented cases of several patients getting serious surgeries (open heart, etc).

Kroger will just have to suck it up.

Worked for Kroger many years. Also got several Jury summons. Two Circuit, one district, and one federal. No excuses, I appeared until I was dismissed. Six months was the average for Circuit court. On Federal court, I served as a juror that put a pill doctor away. You know what? I got Jury duty pay, and if my appearance fell on a scheduled work day, I clocked in to work, went to court, and clocked out after I was dismissed that day. Kroger paid me. And...they survived without me.

I've never had jury duty. I work as a night stocker. If I was called for jury duty, do you think Kroger would expect to go to the court house during the day and then work over night?

No.

I work nights and have been summoned for jury duty three times.  I was a part timer at the time.  I was given 4 hours for jury duty pay for each shift I took off.  And, I got the pay for Jury Duty from the courthouse.  I think it was supposed to be deducted from my paycheck but the payroll person didn't bother.  I took off whichever shift I needed so I could be at the court house and ready to go.

I never got seated on the jury because of my experience of being held up at gunpoint as a teen while at work.  I always use this story if I think the case has something to do with weapons.  Another time, the defendant made a plea deal before the jury was seated.

Coupla things.

First: DEF-initely show up. Knew a guy who skipped summons---he was a contractor and couldn't afford to miss jobs his competitors would grab up---got arrested for it and spent a week in county just cause the judge decided to be a prick and make a case about it. "YOU HAVE A CIVIC DUTY!" and all.

But also, like Anonymouse1 pointed out, it's not that hard to get tossed from the panel. Whatever is being tried, claim a personal bias against it. It's called a pre emptory challenge, and the opposing council will ask you to be removed.
