So I haven't posted in quite a while, but I wanted to let everyone know that I moved away from my home town and started working with a new company that is a smaller chain in Utah with only 18 or so stores. Essentially I started as a "freight boss," but I work rotating shifts (graves for 3 months, days for 3, front end for 3). I am the 3rd manager in charge of the entire store. This place has opened my eyes to what a difference it can make when the company ACTUALLY genuinely cares about you as an individual. This is the same level of management as freight boss, and the pay is over a dollar an hour more. Authority is respected, the company really has a handle on the way they do business. They have shown me how each one of us can directly influence sales. Also, to put this into perspective: Grocery managers at the Smith's in the area/district I was in made about $18.50 per hour. Roughly almost 40k per year. Grocery managers at this company that I work at make 80k per year as long as you bonus. Without a bonus it is 60k, salaried. See what I mean? Kroger does NOT pay people what they are truly worth. I strongly suggest, if you can, to escape the oppression like I did. Use the experience you've gained from Kroger on a resume, and get to a company that will pay you what your work is worth. You will be so much happier, I know I am. I was urged to put in for the next grocery manager job in the company that comes open; they told me I have all of the right qualities for it. I promise you guys, it is worth it to get away from Kroger. Thanks for reading my little story, and I look forward to your comments!

Congratulations on finally escaping from the shackles that is Kroger.
At least you didn't have to saw your own foot off to do it like in the Saw movie.
Although some here have not been as lucky...

Yes, exactly like the movie Saw. Kroger chains people to the job and doesn't let them leave, Kroger holds them hostage! That's why you never ever see a post here on this forum about people quitting or worried they will be fired!
