I can't for the life of me figure out why people ERMAHGERD HAVE TO HAVE MY CHECK THE DAY IT'S THERE.
I know it's none of my business what other people do, I'm sure the majority of people who don't have direct deposit still go pick it up. But I don't. It's my day off, I don't even drive to that side of town (not that it's a big town, but I just avoid that area altogether). Are kroger employees so poor that they have to get their check the minute they're available? Do you really work paycheck to paycheck? Damn Tyrone, get it together, it's called a savings account! The check will still be there the next time you work...nobody else can take it.

Buckle up folks, this is going to be bumpy..
You have to consider the average adult person who works retail: a study in low I.Q., addiction and desperate life styles. Of course people like that live pay check to pay check, and disaster to disaster and stupid choices made throughout stupid lives that often lead to stupid deaths.
I'm in the minority because i get paper checks and yes i get the on friday's even if i'm off. it's because i always do all my shopping on friday's. i have a routine, thats all.

Sorry, I really should pull back the throttle on my response. There are exceptions to almost everything; and the business of shopping, etc on a day off, keeping with an established routine that's functionable is a good example of that.
Back when I used to get paper checks I used to get it on my day off because that was my shopping day. Also it sucked to have to wait in a giant line when you're tired from work and just want to go home or during your break. The customer service line was always giant, and if you took too long opening your check (in other words longer than 5 seconds) they'd move on to the person behind you and you'd get stuck waiting for another 5 to 10 minutes while they took care of that person's issue.

im with hya 100% on this. If you have even a savings account (and ANYBODY can get savings), there is NO REASON not to have direct deposit. As for those pre loaded cards? UH UH. Steer clear, they're fulla service fees, etc. You lose $$ out of those. But you'll get peeps who stubbornly insist on paper just because...well, they're stubborn. No real logic behind it.
Everyone is different.. some people may prefer not to use their break time or what have you to get their check. Others go shopping on Fridays, others have bills due, maybe kids' allowance to pay? Some people might also just feel better getting their money on pay day
I don't know if they still offer it, but when I started working at Kroger I got a free account at Bank of America. It's funny though, you can't go inside the bank lol! If you have direct deposit, the checking account is free, but you have to use the atm outside. I went inside the bank once for some reason, waited in line, and they walked me outside and showed me the atm machine lol! I had fun with them when I lost my debit card. I called and asked them if they wanted to meet me by the atm and hand me my new card. She said I could come inside. It was weird, but free.

what cards are you referring to? I know there are prepaid visa cards you can buy (with fees) but nobody mentioned those. Is there a paycheck option for those???
I didn't get direct deposit until the tail end of my stay at Kroger, but I did go in on my days off for my checks. We usually do some shopping, and bills were also due sometimes, so it was just easier this way.
And if I did work on a Friday, I would go to the desk before I started work because I worked until 10pm most days and by then the desk would be closed.
1. If they screw up and loose the checks, I still get mine because it's automatically deposited into my account. (Management suggestion) No muss, no fuss.
2. I aLmost always get asked things when I go into the store on my day off for ANYTHING. Even a check. Thats why my manager strongly suggested I get direct deposit. Co-workers and customers tend to get infuriated with me when I don't tend to their needs. (But that's another story)
3. I don't have to wait for a designated time to get my check
