I have worked for Kroger since 1987. My Mother passed away on April 4th of this year. I informed my human resources office of her death and mentioned that my Mother lived in Utah. I live in South Carolina and the funeral wasn't until the 11th of April. When I returned to work, I was given notice of 4 days unexcused absence due to attending my Mothers funeral. Here's the real kicker. Kroger sent flowers to my Mothers funeral, yet I wasn't excused to attend her funeral???????????? Seems like a little compassion should have entered into the situation somewhere or somehow
I'd fight the sh!t out of that one. Threaten to or even DO hold a news conference----easier than people think, the media nothing but a bunch of gossip whores craving stories---and make a stink about it.
i informed all the co managers (store manager wasn't around when i was) and they told me not to come in for the rest of the week and gave me bereavement pay. the HR person does **** never go to them for anything. my hr person wont even give me new shirts but my managers will.
