now we must forcus on watching each associate to report to management, to let them know if we are speaking to every customer, that come into our dept. and we were told that we could lose our job if we don't, so many time we are so busy trying to keep our dept filled, we cannot always see or speak to every customer. kroger have added more pressure, i think they are about to lose some very good worker who really do care about the customer having the item they need when they come to shop with us.

They're actually having  employees fill out reports on their fellow employees at my store.  That's really going to increase morale.  They just don't get it.  The number one complaint customers have about the store is items not being in stock.  So instead of scheduling more hours so the shelves can be filled, Kroger thinks it can appease the customers by being overly friendly.  Not only does it not solve the problem, it actually makes it worse because the customers get annoyed at having every employee saying hello to them and asking how they're doing.

"Having"?

Are they going to write you up for not throwing your brethren under the Krogrr bus?

"Sorry, sir: during my frenzied efforts to do the jobs of three people (so you can pocket the wages of the phantom two as bonus), I found myself unable to closely monitor the customer interactions of my fellow associates."

How about all 100 of you refuse to partake of the poison?

No, but they'll seek out the weak, cowardly employees and intimidate them into believing they will be fired for not complying. I've seen this exact tactic played many, many times.

And it works, too.

They will create a dumb little program with stickers and 5 dollar gift certificates. If you see something not acknowledging a customer, you correct them or some bullshet like that. So predictable.

This is so laughably anti-union behavior that it almost certainly violates any union contract you might be under.  Ours even stipulates that members of the bargaining unit (hourly clerks) are never to take or aid disciplinary action against another bargaining unit member.  If they try to make you do this, refuse.  If they try to discipline you through clerk reports, get out your Weingarten card if you have it and union up.

I suppose that instead, for us there was a threat of what I have come to lovingly think of as the Kroger gestapo coming to question random associates about corporate policy on the matter, apparently expecting verbatim repetition.  Given the notion of making clerks spy on other clerks suggested above, its not a bad metaphor.

Just remember, the hour shortages and conditions in general are not an accident.  It is designed because some accounting matrix somewhere suggests that this is how to maximize profits.

I hope a lot of grievances are filed. There are a lot of co workers who will do krogers bidding you cannot trust co workers. Kroger is trying to turn workers against workers to get rid of the Union. I have 29 years with Kroger and I am not spying on co workers. I have had co workers tell lies on me and I stay away from them. There is not many people I trust at my store. Like the union told me years ago do not trust co workers. Corporate are morons.
