What I am wondering is what do you CCs and UCs do on the lot to stay safe and productive, and still keep up with demand. Normally I'll try to stay focused and just build the corrals to 6 first then bring them in, but other times, I'll simply haul til I have 6 n make a trip inside.
So the entire store had to sign the whole "Safety Write Up" sheet thing a while back and one of them was "watch for traffic, grab only 6 carts at a time, don't go out in the lot alone, have another employee accompany you to your car, etc. etc." What a load of horses*** if you ask me, but I do get the reason for it and do support it. Most of it is freaking "common sense safety" that we shouldn't have to deal with, that I've been doing from Day 1 since 6 months ago.
I honestly do not get why they buy the cheapest crap they can afford for us and say here ya go. For only 80 bucks or so they could have 5-6 good quality ones like mine which will protect in the unlikely event you get snagged by a car or something, the vest goes, the wearer don't. Sure ya might be thrown down or something, but the vest will go for the ride rather then you. I know mine works. Why? Because I am seen a lot further out and on all sides. So cars will actively avoid or anticipate me (90% of the time.)
Being VI, personal safety on the job is crucial for me as I consider that vest a part of my daily work PPE and is why I bought one personally and leave it in my locker (along with my own cart straps and work gloves for frozen / cooler / pallet / box-cutting work) (Probably one of the only UC's who carries a box cutter in it's holster during my shift, so I can stop using my keys or pens for cutting / punching, and make my job easier.
Also, grabbing carts without a strap sometimes is nice, but I'd always prefer a strap over none. Because I don't want to go play "bumper carts" in the lot today.
Just curious is all.

The only time I would consider it "nice" to do lot duty without a strap is if we're doing trains. I actually have a strap set aside for myself because of how often management calls for surge help on the lot from my department, and if they don't see any of us go out there lord knows they'll come over and find one of us to pull even if we're dealing with a rush.

I enjoy doing trains as well, just navigating the lots is a challenge at times lol
