So my husband works for Kroger in the meat department and is not in the union yet. He was just informed less than 2 hours before his shift that he got bumped and that he wasn't coming into work today. The person who told him he was bumped is not the department manager but is right underneath of him. He said that another clerk had bumped him and for him to not come into work. Who approves the bumping shifts? Does a manager have to approve it?
Also, he was told from the guy that bumped him that he bumped him on Saturday, yet the person who told him said that the guy who bumped him changed it on Friday night after the schedule was posted. My husband was the one who closed (by himself) that night and the schedule hadn't been changed when he left at 9:30.
I've been told that you have to be informed of a bumping shift well in advance of the day the shift has been bumped from. He was only told less than 2 hours before his shift even started. Since we are pretty sure that the two other guys involved in this are full of bull, is there anything that he can do?
Well tentnecly only, management can aprove bumping but some store Evan of ice can you have from Thursday at noon two Friday at noon two bump might want two checks hand book also all I know with 20 yrs with company
If I recall- you have 24 hours from the time the schedule is posted to bump. I think the schedule is due posted at 4 pm by contract rule maybe 5 pm. So anyone above you in seniority can claim any or all of your shifts. It needs to be submitted in writing to a salaried manager or HR who then must approve it and make the changes on the already posted schedule and sign it and make a note on it that it is a bump and contact the union steward of it. Then the next person can bump and has a 2 hour window and so forth. It's very vague in writing in the contract as is most things
