Never heard this term used at Kroger but in case this is a legit question:
The Key Holder is responsible for opening and/or closing the store and ensuring that proper store procedures and policies are followed when store management is not on duty or unavailable on the floor.

If you really think about this it makes sense. Would stop shop lifters if there was a way where people had to drop their keys and if they was hiding another set an alarm would go off.

at a different grocery store that I've worked for recently, a KEY HOLDER is just a fancy smancy name for a salaried manager. They have the keys to the store and are the first ones there and the last ones to go - so they unlock the door in the morning then lock it up / turn on the alarm at night.

besides that - they drink a lot of coffee from the Starbucks, sit in the office staring at e-mails and other crap on the computer, walk around and talk to however is crazy and bored enough to listen and get paid a lot of money for all that
