I put in for my vacation a month ago and it got approved. Well now I find out I was bumped by a co- worker with more seniority. I already paid for my reservations and plane tickets. I WILL be going on this vacation, bumping or not. Now in case they TRY to terminate me, do I need my union just in case?
While you are on vacation, look to see what safeway or heb(Preferred) or Walmarts are in that area. Then walk in and say you have experience at Kroger. Good luck with your new job!
I am guessing you are new if you only got your vacation approved a month ago. If you are new, you will probably be terminated for being on probation. You should ask your shop steward unless they are the one that bumped you.
If you have more time than new, then the union might be able to help. No guarantees.
Do you have the vacation approval in writing?
At most stores, every one requests their vacations by Feb 28th. The manager is to approve them by March 30th. They can not change it after that date unless they want to bump heads with the union. Or, you agreed to the change.

It really depends on how many people are in your department and what your jobs are. If you're a cashier or a bagger, it probably won't be a problem.

If they have a vacation coming, they can't be on probation.

Good point. :)
My nephew was dismissed for similar reason. He made plans, got days off approved ahead of time, the manager changed his mind due to a bump and he was let go for attendance. But, he was already one the edge regarding attendance. Ops situation might work out differently.
Whatever happened to a vacation schedule planner done well in advance by the department head??!!?? In January - everyone picks their vacation week starting with the highest seniority person

If it has been approved in writing, take your vacation as planned but make sure you have taken a copy of the approval. Worse case scenario you have a write up waiting for you, or a suspension in need of your aknowledgement. you may be able to fight it. If you are new or newer then either risk being term'd or eat the cost of the trip.

I was wondering this too, everyone should have had their vacations picked months ago, and sure, sometimes things happen (i had to reschedule mine since they decided to send me to training when i was supposed to take mine) but once it's picked, it's done.
Since when can you bump a vacation. We post a sign up sheet in January and in February it get finalized and that when you can dispute something. But once its done and have been reposted their is nothing you can do. Check your union handbook.
well - an example of bumping a vacation might be when an employee with seniority transfers to your store and department well after the vacation calendar is made
