What to do if a dog is locked in a car on a hot day?

Every now and then, I see a dog locked in a car and they look like they're in distress. Should I just break the windows to save the dog?

Tough call.

Most people will leave windows down or engine running with AC on.  If that is the case, don't worry about it.

If the car is airtight, let your CSM know immediately.  Give model, color and license plate of car so they can make an announcement.  And let store manager decide what to do next.

If there is a crying baby alone in a car, break window.  Deal with the fall out later.

With all the deaths and publicity regarding this issue, you would think people would wise up and make better choices.  I just read an article where a mother left her baby in the car alone while her and two small children went shopping.

Let the manager know about the dog or make the call on your voycall and give a full description. This will let the owner of said animal know and call them out on the spot.

If it's a child or elder, break the window immediately. If the customer gets mad TOO F&CKUNG BAD! That is child & elder endangerment.

A buddy of mine sounds like an enraged grizzly when he's good and pissed and when it comes to children and elderly endangerment, only a fool would dare yell back at him. Oh, you can snap back.... If you want to lose a few teeth.

I've woken a woman sleeping on the wheel up before when I was on lot and found it suspic that after 15 minutes, engine still running and she was slumped over the wheel. So knocked on her window and after I found she was ok, she didn't think much of it even after I apologized for waking her. She just drove off. As a DSW (Disaster Service Worker) my policy from Emergency Management tells me that if I can't wake someone or they do not respond to my verbal commands or announcing, I am to call it in, get help, and attempt rescue while beginning size up. All Store management know of my DSW status, so if there is an emergency and I'm on duty n involved, they understand my training is a bit above theirs n that I follow my training, activate as a First Responder, and will do what needs to be done while following response protocol.

Heck for a 911 call we had recently at the store on night, I had to self activate and do traffic control behind the engine while the driveway was blocked, after guiding the responders in so they can get to the vic quickly and have a clear shot out of the driveway. While waiting on ambo and pd, started crowd control n worked with CSRs to start to have some lanes repopend while formulating a "quick path" in for City units while keeping the lines moving n the exits n entries clear for them.

Yea that was fun.

my first action would be to look around to see if there's a customer who may take charge (maybe they're an animal lover and THEY'LL break the window).  If I don't see anyone after a minute of looking, I'd probably call the cops as I'm heading in to make the announcement.  Yes, on my cell phone. keep it on you at all times in case of emergency...I could give two ****s about their policies, if something happens, I want access to authorities IMMEDIATELY...I don't want to have to go in, fumble through customers to get to one of the few phones that will dial out.  Several minutes and lives can be saved by having access to the phone instantly.   As someone else said, there's nothing wrong with being a bit of an ass in a situation such as this.  Customer screwed up and deserves what they have coming (that's why I'd call the cops...they'd probably suggest breaking the window!)

BTW That was me I was not logged in. Did not feel like logging in. I will say again.,I am going to break the window if I see a Child,Dog or Cat. I am not a fan of cat's but I do not want to see one suffer. I think there would be enough people to back me up on this.

I agree. I'm not a dog fan, but I'd never harm a dog without good cause (like attacking me, friends, or any other living thjng). I do not wish to see a dog come to harm
