I was trying to figure out how long you have to work to get an hour lunch. I've had to work several seven-eight hour shifts. I was thinking it's eight full hours of work, not counting lunch to get an hour.
If you work a 4 hour shift, you get one break. Schedule would read: 12-4.
If you work a 6 hour shift, you get a 15 minute break and an unpaid 30 minute lunch. Schedule would read: 12-630. If you are only scheduled 12-6, then you only get one break and no lunch.
If you work an 8 hour shift, you get two 15 minute breaks and an unpaid lunch. Schedule would read:12-830.
Basically, you get some kind of break after every two hours. The exception is the shift from 12-6 in which you only get one break.
It is possible to take a longer lunch in my contract. You have to get a store managers' approval first. You will not get paid for it. Most employees do not want to be at work any longer than they need to be.
yea that is why a lot of people including myself would try to just keep working without doing a lunch. then the managers would sooner or later come around and force everyone to take a true clocked out lunch - for government purposes. after several weeks of complying, we would all go back to not taking lunches

I've never taken a lunch in 5 years, and i don't know of anyone around here who actually schedules a lunch break. I guess our contract just doesn't care about these things.
If you are taking a lunch, you have too much time. But sooner or later someone is gonna complain and they are gonna check and see i havent clocked out for a lunch in 10 years. The lawsuit is coming soon...

Everyone I know at my store always takes their lunch. You're still working the same amount of hours and it helps to just get away from everything for a while.
We don't get lunches here - and I'm glad. That's thirty fewer (unpaid!) minutes I have to spend at Kroger. Screw that.
Our contract has the 30 minutes deducted as paid. So either way it is 8 hours paid just one half you will be on your ass sitting somewhere.
Yes, and I'd rather spend that half an hour sitting on my ass at in the comfort of my own home rather than at Kroger, lol.
yeah if 8 to 4:30 sure...but 8 to 4 with paid 30 just giving free time away.
Well yeah... I'm okay with an eight hour shift that comes with a paid thirty minute break. I'm not okay with an eight and a half hour shift that forces me to clock out for a thirty minute unpaid lunch at some point. That's thirty minutes out of my day that I could spend doing much more worthwhile and enjoyable things.
