Though I have enjoyed working at Kroger for almost 11 months now, it's time to move on. I am a junior in HS and have a pretty busy schedule. I like working at Kroger (most of the time) however due to my schedule, unfavorable managers, and health reasons (yes I feel like an old man with the condition of my knees from working here) I need to look for employment elsewhere. It would be easy to just turn in my 2-weeks and be done with it however I'm not a courtesy clerk and am not as "replaceable". I work at customer care and am one of the few people that my front end manager (who is actually a great guy) can count on to follow procedure/run CC efficiently. I feel bad quitting after all that my manager has done to move me up.
You are too young to have knees issues. You would never survive working in a department outside of front end.
Kroger is a great place to use as a stepping stone to a better future. Working there while going to high school or college is a relatively safe place for you to be.
But, you need to look out for your best interests. If you are college educable, definitely make education your primary focus. Work is secondary. You might be able to find a different part time job but the hours might be more insane than what you are currently juggling.
A good manager will want you to be successful in life and will want you to jump at better opportunities. They might miss you but they will get over it.
Put in a politely written 2 weeks notice explaining that you are too busy with school and the hours at the store are wearing you out. How they react is not your problem. Be prepared for them to negotiate with you to find a way to keep you. Either say no or know what you want.
This will most likely not make you feel any better.
It's very nice of you that you like your job and working for Kroger. The truth is, that Kroger doesn't care about you at all. They don't care if you are a good worker, if you love your job, if you really put customers first or if they can replace you with relative ease. The gonna drag their heels in replacing you, because while you are not there, they don't have to pay anybody in that position. Somebody else will do your job, till they replace you.
By all means, take care of yourself and your health.
Yes get yourself a job sitting on your ass all day and maybe work on your diet. You either weight 300 lbs or you have auto immune joint issues. Either way, work on your diet.

I think many hourly employees do care. Many store managers do care but are unable to change anything. That is mostly true about any corporate machine tho. That is the nature of the machine. Get as much money out of as few employees as possible to make the shareholders happy. Throw anyone under the buss that gets in your way so you can move up just one more step.

I know a kid that is 6', 135 and already complains about his knees at 21. Does a lot of standing.
