What if the Uscan gives you too much change?

say you just grab what it spits out and walk off.  You realize that it gave you too much.  Is that stealing?

I always look at my change and wonder what I'd do if it spit out a ten instead of a five or something.  My response would be "It's not my job to fill the uscans"  or "I didn't count it, it must be right"

I've never had one give me too much money unless it was left there by the last customer.  On the other hand, there have been many times when it is shorted me.  Even if it's just a penny, I want all my change back.

I've had Uscan give "too much change" (actually left by a previous customer). My change was $5.15. There was $.75 extra left by the customer before me. Customer had left already. I walked away with $5.90 change

We're told at my store if we take the extra change or the coupons that the machine spits out that the customers don't take that it's theft.

So is it theft if the store keeps the forgotten change?

Technically it is, but the store doesn't see it like that.
They see it like this:

We keep forgotten change: theft
They keep forgotten change: it's ok.

you're damn right!  It takes up my break time though so if the person running the uscan is busy I'm just like "hey I'll be back for my dime!"  This topic is very similar to the "finding money in the store"

They want you to give it back.  Well FU, finder's keepers.  Just make sure to be discreet about it:  kick it under the shelf and pretend you dropped something
