I hate the fact that even if I'm more qualified, a higher paying position will be filled by someone who has been there longer, even if they're from another kroger location (and even if they suck at their job), and I still wind up doing more work with less pay. Recently, a position opened up in my department that I was super qualified for, and had even been doing that job while waiting for new hire to come in from a different location. I was told that I couldn't have that position because I'm lower on the "totem pole". I'm still doing more work and filling in for that person when they're not there, but not getting paid for it like they are. I'm a single mom, and I can't drive 30 mins or more away to move up. I have to be able to move up at the store I'm at. But they always bring people from other stores that can afford to make the trip. So I feel like I'm stuck. Everyone at my store assumed I would be promoted to the new position because I already did the work really well. The new person is super nice and a good person, but I can't help but feel a bit resentful towards them. So now I'm feeling like I will have to quit and find a higher paying job, but I've been here for over a year now and the benefits really help, but I'm living paycheck to paycheck. I don't receive any other form of financial help PERIOD. I just think it's ridiculous to hire outside of our store when I was already there and over qualified for the position. Any advice would be great. Thank you
i feel you. i see newer people very able and willing to do a good job, yet they are held back for lazy 'do as little as you can and hey still get promoted' a-h0les. we lose a lot of potential good workers. that's a fact. they get tired of the b.s. an move on to better jobs. I used to work my ass off, but now I m like , eh... an i don't let em know what all i can do, I won't get a promotion, better pay, hours or benefits at all. I'm currently looking for a better job, hell Taco Bell probably pays more and you move ahead faster there, sad to say..lol.

Seniority should only come into play in my opinion if two are more candidates are equally qualified for the job. It makes no sense to promote someone if they've never even worked in the department. Of course the person with seniority but no experience can demand they be given the job but usually they end up failing and end up stepping down. The key is to let them fail on their own. Don't remind them that orders need to be put on. Don't help them with figuring out what's needed and how soon it needs to be ordered. Let them make all the decisions.
I definitely do not agree with that last post. And that is really the ultimate problem with our society today - the "oooo go F them' attitude. My Gawd.
The proper thing to do is to go in to work and do everything you can to make the store and your department run as best as it can.
Damn it folks - what is wrong with some of you? No wonder you are a Kroger employee looser not getting anywhere in life
Yeah, i know you feel screwed over (and you probably were) but if you don't help them - you end up taking the blame too if your department looks like crap.
besides, eventually, you might be able to get a nice promotion yourself. :)
