When does Thanksgiving insanity start?

It's my first November at kroger and I can see the manager is already ordering entire pallets of stuff like brown sugar to prepare. When do the sales start picking up? I've heard from others in grocery once it hits I might be facing 60-70 hr weeks. I already do a minimum of 40 hrs with sometimes 45-50 because there is always a mountain of work.

its starting to pick up at my store. It seems to really get bad about two weeks out, especially with one week to go. You can barely keep some stuff stocked. you really have to keep an eye on what's selling out, and if it's in the back (or display) that you swing by and grab enough for the shelf. Not a terrible idea to use a phone cam to keep track, because there's so much it's easy to forget, and forget how much you need. Hard to do when the trucks are huge And you have your handful with just doing at.

Meat department should already have their turkeys in stock.  If grocery doesn't have things like stuffing mix, pumpkin pie mix, pie crusts, etc. by now, they should within the next week.  Perishable items such as bread and produce usually aren't stocked up until the weekend before Thanksgiving.  The three days before Thanksgiving will be a madhouse.  You fill everything up and as soon as you're done, you have to do it all over again.

I do.  Under our contract the store is staffed with "volunteers".  If they don't get enough "volunteers", then they schedule by inverse seniority.  Since I'm the top person in my department, besides the department leader, I don't have to work.  The contract also says those who work on Thanksgiving will only have to work 4 hours.

I managed a vacation most of that week.  Originally wanted it in july but too many people were off.  I went down the calendar and the next week when nobody was off was TG week.  I told them I didn't care what happened, if 3 or 4 people died, I would.not.be.there.  Enjoy somebitches

Man that is nice to have it off. I'll likely have to work Thanksgiving AND my bday 5 days later. Even though I worked the closing of our old store too. Ah well, holidays aren't what they used to be for me anyway. So at least can grab a few work hours, and a turkey TV dinner.
