I heard that 14 grievances were filed at my store last Friday because they brought in several co-managers from other stores to work all the backstock in the backroom to fill up all the holes out on the sales floor.  I've been on vacation but when I left, the backroom was such a disaster, one aisle was completely blocked off with pallets and trucks.  I had been looking for this one item for the last three weeks and finally found it today.  It was probably buried in the backroom all this time.  Last I heard, they didn't have a grocery manager or a backup.  So no one is in charge.  So this week they're calling everybody and asking them if they want to work.  They're compiling a list of those who say no and they think if they get enough names then they can say no one wants to do the job and management had to do the job and that way they won't have to pay out the grievances.

Pretty much that is how it works. If they don't have staff, management can do that and be bulletproof.

They can claim they don't have the staff but what they really mean is they don't want to give people the hours.

Oh trust me, I know its all bull****. Doesn't change the fact that a grievance under these conditions is essentially wasting everyone's time.
