I've read multiple times on here that you can't be fired simply for being too slow, however I've never read anything in the contract mentioning it. Local 1996.
If you're past your probationary period, they cannot fire you for being too slow. They can move you to another department, but they can't fire you. Believe me, if they fired people for being too slow, half the employees in the store would be let go.
Many variables... How long have you been with the company.
Current position
Age
Yes, you can be terminated. this is how it works.
You can be written up and will be worded as follows.
"You fail to meet the production standards as set by your fellow co-workers"
Depending on your position, specifics will be included, as in how many cases you can work per hour. Each dept. will have different standards. After two write ups, you may be suspended for a week.
Upon your third write up within a six month period, you can be terminated.
I suggest, after the first write up, please contact your union rep, and see how you can improve. If you show an interest in your job, you may ask to try a different dept. Better your attitude, better chance of keeping your job.
Most likely moved to another department and if you work too slow there, you will be moved to the front end.
The front end is the worst department at Kroger so they'll use it as a last resort. Anybody with experience in other departments hate front end so management knows you're likely to quit if you get moved up there.
