Hello everyone I've been working in dairy department for about 5 months now & I would like somes tips on how to better in that department. There are 3 people in this dairy department & I basically work alone for 5-7 hours either in the mornings or evenings.During that time I finish our pallets & break them down work eggs, juice, milk, cheese,& even the annoying yogurt. It takes me a hour & a half to work our pallet if its not yogurt but recently I've been told im being moved to anither department because of my  productivity but when I talk to my managers about it but I always get the run around.Anyone have any tips on working in dairy cus my manager doesnt help me?

If they've already made their decision to move you, there's nothing you can do. If you don't want to be moved, talk to your store manager and your union. Is it because you aren't moving fast enough? If that is the reason, you are probably being too detailed oriented. But you also be seriously moving too slow. Although in most cases, young people are just too detailed oriented and/or inexperienced to move faster. 5 months is not a lot of time to learn a department like Dairy. You probably need to be trained better. Ask to work with your department manager and watch and learn how he does stuff. You'll learn a lot more by watching people closely.

What I did when I worked Dairy:

1. Rotated product. First in, first out is the general rule. Newer products to the back. Older ones to the front to get sold in a timely manner.

2. Planned ahead and ordered as needed. Made sure that when ordering we were low on the product and that it would get here when it was supposed to. If too much came in due to over ordering, I marked down if we had an over abundance of product.

3. Made sure donations were logged properly and that nothing was donated too close to the expectation date.

4. Kept dept, clean and organized. This prevented over-ordering and ordering the wrong product.

5. Ignored calls to the front for surge help if I was busy. I came up to help BRIEFLY and ONLY IF I was caught up with my duties.
