Federal Holidays and Payment
Permalink

Okay, so my mom's convinced I should be getting paid for all the Federal Holidays, but I was positive we only get Legal Holiday payment for New Years, Independence Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Are we supposed to get paid for MLK Jr. Day, George Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veteran's Day?

No.

I am not going to say anything bad about your mother.

Kroger is not a Federal job.  They do not pay for Federal Holidays.  There is no law anywhere that says a company has to pay for holidays.

Read your union contract.  Mine says we get paid for Memorial Day after 2 years and Labor Day after a year of employment.

It all depends on the contract. Mostly you will not get extra pay for holidays if you are hired within the last 5-10 years as it is was negotiated out of the contract to make room for health insurance and pension. A foolish move if you ask me.
