With several years of service as a deli clerk at the Clackamas Fred Meyer, I have faced persistent weight-related ridicule from management and department leaders for almost a year. In a similar situation, a meat counter clerk named John was allegedly coerced into resigning due to his weight, and his hours were reduced after he posted about the incident on Facebook. Following reports to HR, my union representative, and BOLI, the matter remains unsettled. I fear that my job may be jeopardized if management learns about this post.
This is the truth. I was a meat and seafood counter clerk at the Clackamas location until those barbarians decided to retaliate against me for complaining to my union representative regarding a scheduling issue. For the next two years, I was constantly set up for failure and written up for failing, teased about my weight issue and humiliated by management when the store manager found out from the pharmacist that Im on antidepressants. :crying once during one of their so called employee appreciation bbq, a coworker yelled at me to save some food for the rest of the team. The store manager was present and he fell on the ground laughing at me. After that I found a better job and Im going great. SHOP LOCALLY!
I worked at the Clackamas Fred Meyer until 6 months ago. The management team often ridiculed me because of my weight problem. I tried many times to transfer, but my interior application was tossed in the trash. When I finally quit, and applied for other employment, I wasnt hired because the manager of Fred Meyer kept giving me a bad reference. The nightmares wont stop. Im at the end of my rope so I plan to end it all tonight.
Nothing is worth that! I understand the overweight problem because Ive been there. Clothes that didnt fit, the name calling, all of it! But, that was then and this is now! Im much happier as Ive gotten older! Ive gained wisdom! Ive realized that their opinions dont count. Your opinion of you is what truly matters! And life is too short as it is not to appreciate the everyday miracles that happen. You are important! You matter! A rough job is temporary and despite what some might think, it is not the be-all, end-all of someones life. Life is more than just our jobs, our titles, money. The great band Journey once noted that you have to be good to yourself when nobody else will! Talk to those in your life whose opinions you respect and appreciate. Remember that you are going through some things that many, many others have gone through. We are all in the same boat here! Give yourself some grace and take care of your mental health. If you need more support, there are resources! And remember, you can always vent here! Just know, my friend, that you are not alone!
