Why do people complain in one breath and in the other......

What gets on my nerves is the employees complaining about how Kroger sucks, their jobs, and other employees. Then turn around and brag about how long they've worked for the company and their seniority. The only ones who have the seniority to tell me my job are the Leads and managers. They only seniority anyone else has the hours, availability, and vacation time. If you don't like your job, quit. You've worked there long enough to be able to get another job, somewhere else, easily. Like I've been told 'You're easily replaced' It won't affect the company negatively. It might actually be a positive thing for both of you!!!

Don't get me wrong. Yes I have been a clerk for 41 years. I have seen a lot and have been through many mergers. This job used to be a lot of fun . I work for Ralphs and have been through many mergers with this company. Kroger really screwed it up, big time. Ralphs is fine, its Kroger that is the problem. Ralphs has always taken care of their people. I get to write my own schedule, choose my job assignments and my job is better now than ever. I feel sorry for the other people around the country that work for Kroger and make minimum wage. We complain about the new people because of their lack of work ethic and are jealous  of ol timers because were are paid great and great benefits. That why us ol timers chose this as a career. Its no longer a career and I would not do it again.

I've worked for Kroger for only 6 months now and I have a better work ethic than 75% of the people there. That 75% has worked for Kroger for more than 6 years. They just walk around, gossiping and taking long breaks/lunches, all in all the time, and think they have the right to tell others to their job. Then complain about how Kroger sucks. I have never seen such lazy disrespectful people in my life.

@MyOpinion

I've been with Kroger for 2 years, I am one of the top performers and customer favorites of my department and I have always seen what you have seen (the people who have been there longer than me, just flat out sucking)

But I've come to the conclusion that it isn't so much about Newbies vs Lifers or what have you. It's about the demographics of people.

In my department, all of the lousy dragass workers are either 70+ years old (so they get
social security, as well as their spouse'

They're high school students who don't fully grasp the concept of a job, and obviously, don't pay bills.

They have a full-time 16+ dollar an hour job and only work at Kroger 12 hours a week at most. These are typically single moms, so if they really **** up and lose of the jobs, there's still safety nets to protect them from homelessness and starvation.

And the lifers who view the Union as Jesus, and throw it in everyone's faces.

If you don't fall under any of these categories (I don't) chances are you give a damn about your job, because you NEED to, as do I.

But the people I mentioned don't. It's all a vicious cycle really. Kroger keeps wages and hours so miserably low, that they attract swarms of people who do not need the jobs to survive.

Hell, we actually had one brand new middle-aged courtesy clerk who humblebragged that this was all a little hobby to get extra money, because she's a stay-at-home Mom who just wanted to get out of the house. She was fired within a month after 3 no calls no shows.

Isn't humanity grand?

In response to the OP of the thread

Were you talking about the bitter folks at your job that complain about Kroger all day, while at work, but then throw seniority and crap in your face and try to boss you around as if they're your boss, when they're not?

Yep, that too, chaps my ass.

Yea we have people like that in our Deli. What chafes my behind is that some of the more senior ladies are like my DH's "Charlies Angels" or some crap. He would rather believe those women over another employee in a heartbeat. I won't say that these women don't work. But they are seriously some of the MOST cattiest, bitchiest, two-facedest women I've ever come across in my life. And they always have something to say about everyone in the dept. And it's like he worships em like gold.

So that is why it would always uber annoy the crap out of me, how they would be witching about how things weren't done on closing shift etc. etc. But NONE of them have been on a closing shift in FOREVER in the first place. And plus NEVER at our new store in the first place! And it's like he will take their sides in a heartbeat. Sucking up every word they say like it's gold. And end up berating myself and others. And I personally hate it. I mean we have the majority of our staff on all day. And when it comes time for closing. We are down to just one person. And they forget that we have just as much of an active event set of customers as we do during the day. So you would think they would try and find a way to rotate more help down to closing. But nope. We don't have the hours for that. But we have time to bitch about who has been there the longest and talk about other people at one's leisure. Real cute.

Lane Handy, Yes I'm talking about those people. None of them want to take the responsibilities that go along with being the Lead, but all of them want to be the boss. They throw seniority in your face even though they don't really have the seniority they think they do. It Irks me so bad and then I become the Bi...

That sounds like another group that Kroger tends to attract :

Insecure old people who lack the ambition and competancy to advance in the company (and they know that) so they must overcompensate by attempting to find fault in younger workers, or those who haven't been there long.
