What are the differences?

Backup has six letters.  Lead has four.  One starts with a B.  The other starts with an L.

Depends on your contract.

Basically:

A Department Manager makes the big bucks all the time and catches all the ramblings of the Store Managers and District Coordinators.

A Back-up fills in for the Department Manager.

A Lead oversees a small department but only gets a small increase in pay.

Grocery Manager has a back up.  When the Grocery Manager is on vacation or off during the week, the back-up fills his position and gets higher pay if they fill in for entire week.

Lead positions usually get a 50 cent to $1 pay increase.

It gets confusing under our contract recently.

We used to have a Frozen lead.  Now, we have a Frozen Department Manager.  They now make the same pay as the Grocery Manager.

The head Nutrition Clerk is a lead.

They opened up a Lead Grocery position/title.  I think it went to the DSD Clerk giving them a small raise.
