I began working for Kroger as a cashier on Apr 11 2017. Since then I have been trained in SCO( for about 2 weeks in July) and now I have been trained in customer service for about a week. In total I have been with the company for 3 months and would like to know if it's possible to be evaluated sooner than usual since I have progressed more than the average noob?
With the new contracts negotiated by (UFCW Local 1996 stores) will I have to what that 6 month period for a 50 cent raise? Will they consider my progression within the company?
If not what position would I need to aim towards in order to get that higher pay?
they're set im pretty sure. no matter what you have to wait 6 months if that's how youre union contract is. Doesn't matter if you know how to do more stuff, SCO and customer care does not pay more.
At Kroger the raises are not merit based, and there is no increase in pay for knowledge of tasks, unless it's ACSM or CSM (which is about higher RANK not just more knowledge or responsibility).
But if you'll get a 50 cent raise in another 3 months I'd say consider yourself lucky.
In my division part-timers only get a 15 cent raise every 6 months, full-timers get 25 cents.
I also work in the Local 1996 area. You will get the 50 cent raise 6 months after the new pay rate went into effect. As for a position to get a higher pay rate, the only way that will happen faster is to become a department lead or back-up. If that happens though, the most your pay will go up to is $13 a hour and max out at $14 after a year in that position. I did this same thing about 2 years ago. I was making $7.65 as a full-time gm clerk. I took the back-up GM position and instantly went to $10.50 and a year after that i went to the max of $15.65. So in a year my pay went from $7.65 to $15.65, more than doubling. However you will never be able to make as much as me now with this new contract, this is the best way for you to increase your pay the fastest.
