kroger denied my job applications should I sign up again ?

I completed the application but the only thing I didn't do was show a resume because it wasn't required it was optional. Also, they asked if I ever worked at Kroger before and I said no?

this is what they stated: Thank you for your interest in the Kroger Retail Hourly Associate position with Kroger Stores.  We appreciate the opportunity to consider you for a position on our team.

After reviewing your submission and application, we have decided to pursue other applicants who more closely match the needs of this position.

Thank you again for your interest.

Application records are kept for about 6 months before a review of an application is done again. That being said I would apply every 3 months or so just to see what would happen. It helps to have a resume for past experience but it's not strictly required as Kroger hires fresh high schoolers all the time to fill low level cashier and bagging positions.

The best times to apply, in my opinion, are in January, June and late november/ early september as those times are when people tend to quit due to holiday hours being cut or starting to ramp up. I was hired in mid september as seasonal help but I did so well that I was kept on after the fact.

Truth be told, they probably denied your application based on the "personality test" given at the end of your application. Cheat next time.

There really wasn't any personality test on the application and the only thing they asked me was personal info and when I will be able to work.

Apply for several different positions and see what it says. Maybe that position you don't meet their standards, yet.

If your availability didn't include ALL of the weekend and/or late nights that's probably why you were snubbed.

As a general rule, nobody ever wants to work those shifts, so they're always gonna go to people with the least amount of seniority.

The weekends are also non-negotioable in retail. Even the full time lifers in my department never get out of Sunday work.

And if the stores nearby have enough high school and college kids for the 4pm-9pm shifts, and you're not willing to do a 6-11 shift or overnights then you'll get turned away.

I had this issue when I was applying to Target (this was before I worked at Kroger).

At the time I wanted to keep my receptionist job which left very little room for a second job, so on the Target application, I said I could only work 3 days a week, no late nights.

Well, I was always rejected within 2 days of applying to Target.

When I applied to Kroger I claimed wider availability because I became desperate to leave my job completely.

My store is a marketplace. It's brand new, was just completed earlier this year. I applied back in June, to like 4 stores in my area, including this one. Within a week (well, more like 4 days) my application for this store was moved up and I received a call to setup an interview. There was no personality test on the application. I had a giant gap in my employment history, so I didn't put any previous employers down. Just that I had a high school diploma. And I'm in my 30s.

On the application I put that I was willing to work saturdays and sundays and holidays, and I set my availability from 8am to 10pm. On the day of the interview, the interviewer was the HR manager. She sat me down, asked me two interview questions. Tell me about yourself and what would you do in a difficult situation. After that she just said "Welcome to Kroger" and I we scheduled when I could come and start doing the web training thingies on the computer and she did the cheek swab drug test on the spot. There was no group activity or personality tests that I had to complete.

Apparently this store is always hiring as I'm always seeing new people being hired (or transferred from other stores?) every week, and then some quit and I never see them again. They even had a couple hiring events here to try to get people to apply. And that's just in the 4 months I've worked here. Lots of minors working here. I'd say 70% of the cashiers and baggers at the front end are minors.

It seems they changed it since then and I didn't realize. There are a few questions at the bottom but nothing too serious. It could have been the availability as others have said in this case.

I'm still amazed folks got around or out of the personality assessment when they applied. I had to do one and it felt like 3 or 4 pages long of ever repeating similar questions. But yea, I agree with Lane Hardy, if you aren't down with doing nights, weekends, and holidays, then for sure retail ain't for you. Heck I was surprised I got my first holiday off(4th of July) since being hired and I'll be on a year the 27th of this month.

So yea, I don't think you'd get hired if you aren't willing to play ball so to speak with what the store is looking for. And unless you really ride your managers about you having other obligations, they will STILL try and crack your schedule to wide open availability, especially if there are a ton of call offs.

I had the same issue because the company didn't want to take the time to deal with a free dshs job coach even though they wouldn't have to deal with all the paper work.  If you feel every thing is against you and they're intentionally denying you; you can file a complaint with the Kroger Ethics Board.  I wish they would tell us about it because I filed several of my complaints with the government instead.

I applied for kroger and was past up for the past 5 years, applying for the same two departments. I then retweeked my resume and my application the last time and I was finally considered for the meat department, which I got. Tip: consider your "reasons for leaving" sections and make them look more professional.
