Can Uscan cashiers be given an override number?

I've noticed some of the cashiers who run the Uscan at my store have their own override numbers that I've seen them use. Of course, they don't need a key to use them at the Uscan only at a register. But then again, these same cashiers know how to run the service desk, so that probably explains why they have one.

There are times when I need an override and an FES is nowhere to be found. And this is for stupid reasons, such as customer scans barcode for cucumber and it rings up for $40.62 and the customer kept voiding it and rescanning it 5 times, so when it comes time to pay, the robot asks for an override due to excessive void amount limit.

One of the FES's told me his override number when I had a problem at the Uscan with a coupon once cause he didn't want to walk all the way over to my Uscan to type it in. So ever since then I've been using it very rarely in situations when I can't find an FES to help me. But now that they've been transferred to another store, I'm afraid to use it anymore, cause I'm sure the office people will be seeing the number being used and wondering why when that FES is no longer at the store.

No. Only front end managers and supervisors can have an override. If a cashier has gotten access to an override number and the front end managers know about it and are not taking any action, it should be reported to upper management.

At one of my previous stores, everyone that worked self-scan/Uscan, Customer Service and cash office had an override, on top of the front end supervisors.

Since though the person that gave you his override number is no longer at the store, I think it would probably be best that you no longer used it. Really though, I don't see why you shouldn't have your own, this way when there isn't a front end supervisor available or even scheduled at the time, you'd be able to resolve customers' issues and help them move along in a timely manner.

My short staffed store I transferred from gave the uscan over ride number to everyone.  I'm beginning to realize they did this because of short staffing.  According to self check rules the managers and fes were the only ones that should have had it.  They should not have given any of their cashiers the uscan over ride number.  The equivalent would be giving cashiers the right to do key flip over rides them selves.

All of my usual sco people have overrides. I think when we got the new toshiba software we were told to do that anyway.

I got rid of the generic one the store had been using when I got there.

It's no big deal, the number follows you everywhere. I can see who did what with their override any time in accounting. So can loss prevention, the MAX software that tracks everything, management... it's better to give out more numbers than for people to share numbers. Obviously there are people who have no business having an override number and they'll never have one.

I don't give register keys to everybody, just where they're needed like service desk, FES.

Keep in mind it used to be best practice for the overnight cashier not to have an override key or code and those were only given to the overnight grocery manager & backup but that was a mess.  My division has almost no 24 stores left.

Out by us we are still on the very very old systems and our override numbers are programmed to where an override number that a FES has cannot be used themselves, they must have another person override them as the system treats that login like a normal cashier and will "lock out" the override for that register if the FES is signed on. Even our Front End Lead can't use their override themselves if they are running register, they have to get another approval as that's just too much power for one person

At my store, U-Scan has its own over ride that can only be used there.
