I started at $7.35 :(. The reason I asked is because my friend just got hired for the deli and she'll be making 11 to 12 per hour :( but she also is attending a art institute for culinary arts. When I started Kroger I was 17 attending college but only offered 7.35 per hour (less than my seasonal job).
The only way to get a pay bump in your situation is to go full time and become a DH. Otherwise you're stuck making min wage with nickel bonuses every 6 months. Find a new job.

THE Art Institutes? the McDonald's of art colleges? (scattered all over the country, yet producing little or no value to anyone) tell her to get the **** out of there now, hopefully she's still fresh meat being ground out of one of their diploma mills. those crooked colleges are the product of greed, and will leave you with unpayable debt. I was a student for two years, and my debt is over 100k. if she continues to attend, I would advise her to never, EVER allow them to transfer her student loans to a private lender. they will do it. that is when your debt starts to skyrocket. stay in communication with financial aid, and express your concerns about this to them. before it gets to that point, I'd sever all ties with them, and take my existing credits to a community college, if those credits are even worth anything. that's another thing about the Art Institutes colleges, their credits normally don't transfer anywhere but another Art Institute.
allow me to paint this picture for you. does your friend want to go right back to working at kroger's deli once she realizes an Art Institutes diploma is worthless? that's the only future she's headed for if she chooses to stick it out until graduation.
their career services department is a sad joke. photographers have been sent to sears portrait photography. as you can see, it's up to you to do the leg work to find any real clients.

That's not true you jerk. If the op has experience in retail and cashering then they can ask about experience pay. I'm not sure if it's best to ask your HR person, or your asp, but op should look into that.
They do have experience pay, at least in my case. I started working at Kroger in October 2015 at $7.95. Within six months, I made full time status and was making $10.50 in March 2016. A few more raises later, since November 2017, I am topped out at $14.81. Oh I should add, I'm not a front ender, but replied to show they do have experience pay.
