I am a Utility Clerk and take my job VERY seriously. I am good at my job and complete my tasks on time. However what is wrong with just doing my job and going home? I do NOT want to chit chat with every person that walks in the store. I am NOT a "chatty Cathy" or a "Talky Tommy" by ANY means UNLESS I know you. Even then when on the clock I want to be left to do my work in peace. I do NOT have time to talk. When I do talk, I give polite, simple, short answers. Just yesterday, I was pulled into the office and given a verbal stating I was 'too task focused.' I didn't know how respond because it caught me.iff guard. I have been there a year and this is what I get?!? What's so wrong with wanting to do my work as assiugned?!? I am NOT rude in ANY way. I was hired to work. NOT chit chat. It's NOT what I'm being paid to do. What's so wrong with wanting to be LEFT ALONE so I can do the work.i was hired.to do?!?
well you've got to acknowledge the customers, that's a big part of our job. Is that what they tell you to do? Remember "bring happiness to everybody, that's what our store is all about"
I am a Utility Clerk too and running into the same concerns. Unless I know you, I will NOT just talk to you just to talk. There ARE about 5 or 6 customers who have become friends and they are treated different and more personal than someone just off the street I don't know. Just because you come into the store every day or on a regular basis does NOT mean we are friends!!
I know how you feel. I am a cashier and I have been told that I am not friendly. I am quite and I talk to people but I am not the fake perky type of person that Kroger wants now. I do not like people coming up to me when I am shopping and trying to start a conservation. I just like to shop for my groceries pay for them and leave. The world is not going to fail if customers do not want to talk. You cannot make customers talk and Kroger needs to finally learn this.
