I've always wondered this. Not only can you see when everybody's working, including the managers (the managers? like they go up there to check their schedule?) but they include their hire date as well. Why?

it's easier and more convenient to post everyone's schedule on a few pieces of paper rather than handing out individual ones. i personally like it because i can see who is working with me on certain days. our schedules don't include our hire date, but they're listed highest seniority at the top, lowest seniority towards the bottom.

it's so we can tell who is supposed to work...we need to know who's supposed to be working and who to call if they don't show up

It also helps to know who you can steal hours from (or claim them from) if they were improperly given more hours than a more senior person

Which I found completely amusing as the week before I went on vacation, our Dairy department was having bump-itis. I've never seen so many red marks all over a schedule before like that.

the fact that anyone has to bump just goes to show that some people have no idea how to make a schedule

*the fact that anyone IS ABLE to, is what I meant.  There wouldn't be a need to bump if things were done right in the first place

I think the way you said it the first time works pretty well too in some cases. As I do think it is kind of odd how they say that some new people can get more hours than some of the full-timers at times. But I guess they probably figure that they could over work the new people and cut back on the full-timers. But still doesn't really make much sense either.

Really? I have been there 23 years. The lady above me on the schedule came when the current store opened. I was at the old store down the road. We are both Utility Clerks she does returns I do store sweeps ETC. Why is she above me?

That is a interesting question. As I have heard the same thing about seniority on the schedules. But it's like sometimes I'm in 7th place one week and other times 9 or 10.

And even once some people were left off the schedule altogether. Which I don't think is right or fair regardless of HOW the DH is feeling about that person for whatever reason. Quit screwing with folks money.

Just food for thought.  If at anytime you switched from part time to full time, did you know that your seniority actually resets. You are then compared to other people that might have been with Kroger less time than you, but have been full time longer that you have.  This makes them higher in the seniority food- chain.  I dont know if this applies to your case, but thought I'd share it.
