I am a backup and have been at this store for 6 months. I came here after winning a job bid. The store itself is not that bad, but the department head is terribly lazy and it is getting me more and more frustrated that I have put in for other stores backup positions. I have not talked to management about any of this because I know it will do nothing. I'm just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this situation where the asst and dept head can't get along. It's not like we argue or fight, we've never done any of that, I just let it pile up and now I want out of here but I'm afraid I will have a hard time doing so.
You might want to actually 1st try something different. Why don't you suggest which areas the Department Head want to focus on and what you want to focus on. Make a plan and then give it to Store Management, then if the Department Head is lazy....they will see....because those tasks are not getting accomplished. I have worked with a few Assistance and Department Heads, you will always have others that do not have the same motivation (Specially in the current job market).

That's not going to work. This guy is old and has been with the company for 30+ years and is stuck in his ways. I've tried to talk to him about it before but he got mad and after those 2 times, I said forget it, I'm going to another store. I'm not going to force to work with somebody who I obviously am not compatible with.
