They may not realize that, it's the deli's job to explain those details. Customers don't all work in told service they won't know a lot of things, and it's not hard to take two seconds to explain

Apparently, not everyone that works in the deli knows this either. I remember last year, a deli employee took an order for a pretty sizeable Thanksgiving meal and the customer had asked if the deli could cook the food and have it ready by a certain time, and the employee told the customer that wasn't a problem. The deli ultimately had to cook all the food for the order, plus keep it hot, ahead of the time the customer scheduled the pick-up for.

So... it's not just customers that don't know this sort of stuff.

I agree on employees not always know what is going on. I mean we had hardly no problems with getting the orders. It just got a little screwy when folks came to pick them up. As it wasn't really communicated where the larger pies were going to be/they weren't in the box with the rest of the food. So when I take a customer down to the bakery to find the one they are after. I'm told they are all on a table in the very front. Which thankfully that customer was very gracious about getting her pie. But I'm quite sure most would have pitched a hissy fit that the pie wasn't in the box with the rest of their order. Or in general, getting ticked off with me for not knowing where to find the pies in the first place. But wouldn't be my fault really, as last I knew they just said the larger pies were for the dinners. They didn't say they would be on a designated table OUTSIDE of our department area!

As for the piping hot Thanksgiving meal, our chicken shop did provide turkey and sides on Thanksgiving I believe. In addition to the dinners that folks could order. But yea, for sure we'd have gotten a manager if a customer was trying to order or demand a ordered meal to be prepared already cooked for them. That would be vastly unreasonable and take too much time away from something else we have to do. So your deli is truly a wonder in regards to getting that dinner cooked for that customer.
