So we're gonna be one of the pilot stores for this newfangled tech they've got, it sounds like a pretty good idea at first, but I can just smell the hours getting chopped week after week...
Anyone with the program in place know any more details than this article, and if it's had an impact on your hours? And how smoothly does it run compared to the normal SCO? And what about theft???
Scan, Bag, Go allows shoppers to scan items as they place them in their cart or bags throughout the store, then pay at a self-checkout station. It can be done using a store-provided scanner or the Scan, Bag, Go smartphone app
Which Division are you in ? When you say "Pilot" are you meaning just the Scan, Bag, Go shopping system or the remodeling of the FE? Scan, Bag, Go isn't anything new, with most store associates not speaking highly of it. In theory is sounds good, but when you though the "human" factor into its.... OMG. If your a SCO attendant supervising 6 SCO's and a customer didn't scan all the Scan, Bag, Go items? Good Luck! If your store piloting the new "experience", you will be adding SCO's and most likely taking out registers.
You will not able able to judge hours in the beginning, as there will be extra hours added....but after 6 months....you will most likely see a decrease in hours overall. In theory Scan, Bag, GO isn't meant to decrease hours, its only to change customer checkout habit so the staffing we currently have is ok. If you cant hired.....only option is Automation of Store. Expect more Meat, Produce, Deli, Bakery to be ship to store already cooked/packaged and ready to go and Grocery/Drug-GM case ready items.

I saw something on tv where in some places you don't even have to stop to pay. There's an app that links your phone to the store. If you put an item in your cart, it adds it to the total. if you remove it, it subtracts it from the total. When you leave the store, the amount is automatically charged to whatever account you've set up whether it be a charge account or bank account.
I think I saw a video somewhere about Scan Bag Go. In it they said they had some security measures to make sure customers don't abuse it and steal. I wonder what those measures are.
This is just another thing to get rid of jobs at Kroger. I would like to know when a product will not scan a customer will just leave products on a shelve all over the store. We might have scan people that is supposed to make sure prices are in computer but there is still prices that is not in the computer. You get rid of cashiers reshops will Be out of control. Right now my head cashier asked me a few months ago if I would work 4am-12 noon to get reshops under control at my store. I love that that shift. You have four hours to get reshops done before you have to come back up on the front end as a cashier. You get off at noon and you are free. Corporate does not know what it is like to work in a store. They need to work in a store and see what goes on each day. Kroger does not care about their employees anymore. If people do not have jobs because of automation how can people pay their bills?
Customers have been having to bag their own groceries more and more anyway with how few courtesy clerks the front end schedules these days. Well... I should say customers have a choice of either bagging their own stuff or watching it all pile up and get crushed at the end of the register belt. Customer 1st service at its finest!
But yeah... as someone that does ClickList, I am NOT looking forward to this being implemented at some point because I expect to now be stopped twice as much (if not more) by customers while trying to run a trolley because of issues with Scan, Bag, Go handhelds... which probably suck as much as the BayMax handhelds do. Joy oh joy.
Scan, Bag, Go uses the current SCO to accept payment. After a customer scans their items with the Handheld or Mobile App, they scan a bar-code located on each SCO. The scanned items are then "retrieved" and eCoupons and payment are processed. People in Fry's and Cincinnati/Dayton (Western Hills, HP, Dent, Mt.Washington, Cold Springs, etc) can see it first hand. Western Hills has had their FE remodeled into the "prototype" more SCO, less manned checkout setup.
I think we might be getting this next month or soon thereafter. The Marketplace I'm at is scheduled for a major remodel and I've heard that they are installing additional self check out stations near produce. We were basically the pilot store for ClickList in the area and now most of the stores in our district either have or are getting ClickList, so the plan might be to again use our store as the pilot store for the area before rolling out Scan, Bag, Go to more locations.
Every store will most likely get Clicklist, it would be interesting to see if all store are having the same issues with it. Scan, Bag, GO roll out isn't too speedy right now, most Marketplace stores near me have 2 SCO Clusters, one on each side of the FE. I love how they say something is a "pilot", its easier to the can the program because it doesn't work then. At one point Scan, Bag, Go was going to get cancelled just like Scan Tunnel.....
I've heard before that every store is eventually going to get Clicklist. Someone who's familiar with my district needs to explain to me how the heck 705 Wayne Ave can ever get Clicklist (or 828 Eaton for that matter). There is literally no room in that little store. 705 has 13 aisles and doesn't even have a U-Scan. It's one of the oldest Kroger stores around here, built in like 1960, there's no room to expand it.
Clicklist doesn't need too much room, specially in a small volume store.....a large walk in closed would most like be enough. Smaller stores are lucky they are still open, as long as they break even they are ok, but once they go into the red... byebye
The scan bag and go system is coming to our store in a matter of weeks. Pink slips go out next week, hours have been cut dramatically, people losing insurance left and right and the union refuses to come to our store. Just to let you know whats coming your way. We have lines backed up into the aisles and yet corporate says we're not busy. Our sales up up 20% yet we are "not busy", we can't even keep carts in the store because they are all in use....not on the lot. It's a hot mess and will only get worse!
We were selected as one of the 7(out of 160+ stores) in our division to pilot the scan bag & go technology with a front end remodel and removal of 3 checklanes. We represent an older demographic, resistant to change. Small store (13 aisles) no clicklist yet. Volume averaging 580k/wk w/o fuel. I'm curious how it's going to go here.
We had a remodel a few months back and there was talk about Scan Bag Go being introduced to coincide with the Re-Grand Opening... but it never happened. We did get additional, second cluster of self check outs (at the expense of some registers) so now we have Self Check Out A and Self Check Out B, but that's it. The Walmart Supercenter that isn't too far off from my store and is currently undergoing a remodel however DID get additional self check outs PLUS the "special" Scan Bag Go registers, so I don't know if the Marketplace I'm at is going to still get it at some point or not.
SBG is no longer "Testing" its in full out. If you look at the locations its currently being introduced in they are smaller stores where before 2-4 lanes open were needed. After SBG, most will only need 1-2 or a 3rd at peek times, Quevision is also change to 1+2.
I though I was being smart bringing my own thermo bags and using SCAN AND GO. Last wed. as I approached check out I heard security called the an employee approached me and asked me if I had an apple ($1.29) Yes I do then the employee proceeded to search my bags for the $1.29 apple evidently I had either scanned the apple wrong or missed it completely. Sure I'll shop at krogers again but only when I haven't a choice
