Payroll HR shorted my pay on multiple occasions and I have direct deposit

I am not alone at Kroger 540 in this situation that the Payroll HR lady keeps messing up the hours when she seems to keep keying in the hours incorrectly. I have heard from other employees in different departments going through the same thing. Either they are missing hours or when she so called "corrects" the problem by adding the missing hours back in that their subsequent paystub would reflect overtime and that causes them to be scheduled to work for less than 20 hours in following weeks as punishment. And when letting the Managers know about the situation, they don't want to hear it. Either they talk down to you like you're fussy for not accepting their explanation  of how it's the computer system that is doing that. No, seriously. This is a human error, not machine. The lady didn't key in the hours, which shorted the pay of these employees. And for her to do it so often, I think it is done on purpose with a pattern store-wide.

The Corporate walks are in efficient in assessing the store performance if all they focus on are the floors. They need to assign oversight of HR performance as well, especially in how poorly payroll is conducted. no

So let me first start by saying, Do you know how payroll is actually done? Who ever does corrections, corrects your mistakes. KRONOS records whatever you punch into the system, if do not punch something your mess up your hours in the system. If they do correct a mistake in history, which is how past payroll is corrected, it does not cause OT in the current week. Does your store have a sheet for your to fill out to correct your time? They actually do not have "Corporate Walks" they are Coordinator or Division members scoring your store to the "standards" which then give the store a score to improve on.

I understand Kronos records my punch in hours. What happened to me was I had an entire week gone missing which the lady printed out the ringing sheet to go over the hours to key in that she said would be combined with my subsequent week's hours in one direct deposit. However, she still keyed them in wrong. Instead of the correct 78.25 hours for the two weeks work, she managed to make it come out as 81 hours instead. I brought it to her attention and she still ignored me.

Yes, I loosely coined the "Corporate Walks" for the Coordinator/ Division members scoring the store to standard, which is needed for improvement. I merely would like HR aspect of the store should also be monitored for their performance as giving out unnecessary OT pay is not improvement in accounting; it results in losses as well. Or perhaps some would consider it to be theft. But don't can the worker for the mistake of the person in payroll HR's authority to control their pay like that.

Thank you for clarifying. I do appreciate it.

This is how it is at my Kroger also. The payroll person is an alcoholic and messes up employees checks constantly. Management has never done anything about been though they know, don't know how this is pk, but you should keep many accurate records showing or proving you worked your scheduled hours. The if the payroll person does this again you can go to the union and file a grievance,  and also contact your state labor department.  In Texas it is the Texas workforce commission.  Or is against the law for compactor not pay you for your time worked and to not pay you accurately. If you file a complaint with your state maybe it will make those idiots, take payroll seriously. However of you do complain management might try to retaliate. But if the poecof carp that does payroll at my store shorts me again I'm filing a complaint and letting Kroger get fined. Texas takes payroll issues seriously and will get employees their pay.

This has happened to the other workers who talk quietly about being shorted their pay when they checked on Kronos with the inquiry button to keep a tab on the hours they've worked. Why does this keep happening chronically? Is this standard practice at Kroger Co? It's not just limited to 540. Other stores have the same problem, too.

My state sucks. I've made a phone call to the Labor Dept but they warn me the store will retaliate by firing me for filing a complaint as that's how the law is. Hire and fire at will.

This thread made me check my pay stubs and I think I got shorted 8 hours myself. The week of 12/24 it looks like I didn't get paid for Christmas eve... I know I worked it. I bet I forgot to write it in the kronos book. Hopefully its not too late to get my retro pay. This would be last weeks check, not this weeks.

I got shorted on the week if Christmas too, and luckily had a different person fix it for me. This is the second year, I have been paid incorrectly over the December holidays.

I write down my hours every shift when I get home.  I check them against my paystub every week.

I get corrections done asap.

You got paid 81 hours instead of 78.25?  Why complain?  That mistake is in your favor.  As long as you brought it to someone's attention, you are off the hook.  It is on them for not correcting it.

Not sure if you work nights but I have had similar corrections.  I think it is magic accounting.  The extra 2.75 hours might be how you are being paid for night premium.  Or, the payrate is temporarily lower and extra time makes the correction amount correct.

As for hours being cut, business is in a lull after Christmas.  Kroger is trying to save money to stay competitive in the market.  And, they should be making cuts wherever possible.  Go in, do your job to the best of your ability and don't lose sleep over what doesn't get done.  That is managements' job to balance labor and hours.

Yeah, with that person, it's got to be magic accounting. I still don't want to shafted down to 14 hours because of that. The managers decide on the hours scheduled, no telling what factors in to their thinking when they decide on what's given each week. Including having alerts about the false OT.

I know about slow weeks and busy weeks. Being shafted during busy weeks? That just means someone got to work when I didn't. I want to work, and I'm part time right now. Full time not available, otherwise, I'm all on board for a set schedule of 40 regularly. Sadly, not available to me.

Hey, thanks for the great advice. I guess I needed to hear it to feel someone is on the same wave length with me. :) Wish things were better though.

Under our contract, part timers are guaranteed 12 hours a week and full timers are guaranteed 40 hours a week.  I thought I read on here that full timers can be reduced to 32 hours under their contract if the need arises.

Unfortunately, low hours is how retail stores stay in business.   They avoid extra taxes and health care expenses.  They expect you to survive on 12 hours and then cheerfully work extra hours when they need you in an emergency.  My experience is that most part timers work their shifts and do not volunteer for extra shifts.

I have heard about cashiers having 0 hours for a week before.  There is a week +/- waiting period before one can file for unemployment.  If they are given 12 hours on the next schedule, unemployment is avoided.  If you have been working a lot of hours and then recently had your hours cut, try filing for under employment.

Sometimes it is store management that is trimming hours and sometimes it is corporate managers demanding less hours be used to run a store.

Each department at each store is allowed to use so many hours based on previous years sales.  ELMS and Osat.  It is a complicated logarithm that is probably meant for a perfect world situation.  Then, the schedule writer is supposed to divide that allocation between all the workers.

I survived by lasting longer than the people that could not survive on 12 hours a week.  I made money working for myself in my spare time.

Kroger is a decent career if you choose to hang in until something opens up.  If you are educable, definitely aim higher in life.

Good luck.
