Im a cashier and I hate Express with a passion. It is so annoying. I hate the carousel so much, I hate that I have less space to work with than a regular lane. I hate that I have no bagger. I hate people that want to come in with a huge cart full. I hate that I get more people that are so demanding and want you to be able to ring them up before someone else is finished checking out. People on Express are so damn impatient and want you to do 1000 things at once. I wish I never had to do Express ever again but it seems I often get stuck there.
I remember my first job, 13 years ago, in a different grocery chain. We as cashiers had to bag our own groceries, no baggers. The lanes were designed where we'd have two stacks of bags right beside the register. Those were good times, man.
I had a customer when I was assigned to one of the express lanes at the location I work at who Did Not like the way I was bagging her groceries, even though I was going by the way we were trained to do that.
She wanted me to bag anything and everything in the bags, even chemicals with food.
She made the comment out-loud that I was using 50 bags to bag her order of groceries.

She did not have close to 50 items.
I had one old bat tell me I was making the bags too heavy after putting just two or three items in them. I got so pissed off at her I put one item in each bag no matter how small it was.
It's the worst. It's just huge orders and crazy people getting in your face the whole goddamn day.
There isn't enough package help for regular lanes, let alone if an express lane needs something. I've been finding joy in backing up the lines by leaving the register to get WIC items and such for the customers instead.
