Haha, If you have't figured it out yet....Kroger really is an IT company...lol Are you in school ? Think about all the technology in the store and all the programs you use daily. Software is constantly being updated, the BTC is the mail Kroger IT department/building located in Blue Ash, OH.
Not college, so no degrees. But I did go to an IT training school where I got CompTIA A+ certified. Working on getting the other certifications.
Even if you do not have college cred, the certs are somewhat as important as actual college education. I speak as someone who works in IT at a non profit supporting up to 100 staff and 80 or so volunteers (who address over 2500 clients) but almost 150 pieces of equipment (from our onsite POS system to tablets to mobiles / IP Phones to Apple / Windows desktop and laptops, covering everything from HIPAA compliance, PCI, and SOX. It's definitely an interesting minefield.)
I am not A+ cert'ed, but have real world experience to back it up. That is something IT companies will look for when selecting a candidate. Not just how many certs you have, but how much experience you have working within those certs and doing the job. My IT Sec instructor who is a Regional Systems Admin for a well known banking group has said it well. "I don't care what pieces of paper you have or how many of them. To me, it is useless without experience as well. You can't have one without the other." Just some friendly advice and guidance.

If your interested in IT, look for a position in the Help Desk. There you can learn the KT and its differing departments, if anything you would most likely would make just as much or more then you currently do as a clerk. Keep an eye open for KT Technology Open House or apply for an KT Internship, maybe you can be POS/CHEC Help Desk and get to know EVERYTHING about CHEC (SCO).
