Last night I was forced to stay past my shift by management. I understand they can do this (I've been here over 4 years) but can they make you stay 2 hours past your availability?
I've been told different things, they can and they can't.
The best person to ask would be your District union representative. Not the show steward.
It is in your contract somewhere. What state are you in?
In mine, I have been told that we can only be forced to stay over 1 hour for un emergencies.
But, in extreme emergencies, the store manager can force people to stay over 2 hours. Supposedly HR contacted the union on this for a clarification.
Here for the fun working environment.
Our store has a policy they cant make you stay over unless they give your 4 hours notice and only 30 minutes past available time.
I was told you dont have to stay even one minute past your scheduled off time, I think it was the union head who told us that at training
however, you'll make enemies that way likely. me, i was usually fine if i was asked ahead of time. not when my ride was already in the parking lot
