Okay, so the Kroger I work has a position in both the deli & bakery for just stockers they don't fix food, cut meat, bake or anything they just work the truck then leave. Our store manager says that they have increased our department sells by 20% but I really don't see it, he says that they are keeping everything in order by managing the product walls & stuff but once they're done they either do nothing else or go to other departments. Is this truly a position in Kroger?

As far as being an actual position goes, the answer is no.  The store you're talking simply may be set up that way because that's what works for them based on the employees they have and their particular skills.  There is a guy in our deli whose only job is to retrieve and put away the deli orders.  Bakery department takes care of the frozen order since most of the stuff is theirs.  Another guy does nothing but fry chicken his entire shift

Not even close. It would be awesome if we could get the extra hands for something like that. But nope, when I'm in bakery 8 to 4, I'm truck and slack out person. And still have to take deli's stuff down to them. Only rarely do they send someone over to come and get their stuff. Which is so odd as there usually is a truck person down there that takes stuff out the boxes and stocks the shelves. But he never comes down to get their stuff.

Would be an awesome help as it saves me or another bakery truck person having to break everything down, sort it all out and wheel it down to them and then take Grocery or Frozen their stuff if they have something mixed in as well(that alone is why it takes truck so long to get done. As you are pretty much truck/errand person/DIY-er when it comes to taking back the pallets and putting them away on your own in the back dock).

Our stuff is almost always mixed in with frozen grocery and frozen meat, but I leave their stuff on the pallet in the freezer, even if I have to re-stack it.  That rarely happens since usually our stuff is on top.   The reason is other departments most likely like to sort their product a certain way.  I know I do.  Doughs and unfinished cakes go on one truck.  Things that are ready to sell go on another truck.  Also, the people in those other departments may not be ready to deal with their product at that time.

How big is your back freezer? Cause although our's is kind of a medium size(I would roughly imagine/guess never really asked), it's still not quite large enough to break down pallets back there at all. Frozen's stuff taking up the majority of the left and right across from the door space. And then on the right as soon as you enter the door, is much of Meat and Seafood's stuff(bakery is relegated a small corner in the far back for too many pies or Packzis for sale. Although we had too much of the King's Hawaiian for a bit as well so we were allowed to get a bit more space near seafoods stuff for a brief period of time). So you can honestly barely turn around in there.

Does not help matters much either, when for some reason, they like to move any additional pallets aside from the first one off the truck(they bring that to our department), to right BEHIND a thing of Frozen's stuff. Or they don't even try and split pallets any more. Which, I guess I should be thankful in the latter situation, that bakery's stuff tends to be on the top pallet. And so I just go up front and grab a buggy and break that smaller one down in the back freezer. But for a much larger one(that is majority our stuff and doesn't need split), I just do not have the room to sort it all out back there. To be honest though, I think that's why the majority of folks just grab their stuff off the truck and work it in their section of the store. As there is just much more room out on the actual floor as opposed to in the back.

But I do get what you are saying about not being ready to work something at a particular time. Which is why we prefer for Frozen to get their stuff that they need off the truck and just slide it back and out of the way in the back freezer. Before putting our's in there too. So that way they aren't losing their product and we aren't either. But naw, at my store they want you to pretty much come in, hop on the truck, and get to chucking stuff in the freezer(in it's right place of course), so that it can be done and you can move on to something else. Too much sorting they tend to get annoyed with, like it's a personal offense or something.

If you were to fill our back freezer with nothing but pallets, I would guess that you could probably fit 20 in there (12 to the left of the door, 6 to the right of the door, and 2 right in the middle).  Luckily it's never been that bad.  I can't imagine having to pull out 5 pallets just to get to one in back corner and then having to put them all back in again.  Right now frozen grocery has a row of those green u-boat trucks on the lefthand side.  The pallets are placed along the opposite wall, which leaves room in the middle to pull stuff out without having to pull everything else out.  Of course sometimes they can't fit everything up against the wall and have to put a pallet or two in the middle.  If they're nice, it will be a pallet they're going to start working on immediately or it will be one of bakery's pallets since they know we always get our order the same time every morning.  The right side of the freezer is for meat department's trucks and bakery's excess product that won't fit in our own freezer, none of which is stuff that we ordered.  We still have over 20 cases of Hawaiian rolls from the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.  We also have a pallet of 12-count doughnuts and a pallet of lemon meringue pies.

I wish we had a stocker for Deli/Bakery, then we wouldn't have to worry about those who avoid getting the truck!!

Oh no, I definitely do not pull out the other pallets in the way if I'm headed for some of the extra stuff in the back. I just grab one of the grey carts we use in bakery and load up back there in the freezer. Squeezing in between everything and putting it on there. And another mini blessing is that if we do have another pallet or two back there that came in. It is thankfully behind Frozen's stuff right in the front. But still, it is tricky moving their pallet out of the way. Cause some mornings ice cream vendors just come and plop down their stuff right in the middle. And so I'm spending the majority of my time moving it to one side or the other. And then Frozen's other stuff, just to get what I need to. And that is if I'm lucky enough to have all our stuff still remain on our pallet. As I've gone in the back a few times and a couple of boxes of mini pies is all over the floor or cakes are tossed upside down on the floor. Just a mess.

And I totally feel for you still having so much extra stuff left over like that. Especially that damn King's Hawaiian. Man does that not chafe my hide having to keep that stocked so much when it's in 4 different locations throughout our store. Even more so when it's the door buster. >_<

Do you work in a smaller store? As I can't imagine someone avoiding truck in my department. Hell ever since I got hired on they would be on your ass about that. To the point that when you would go back there and check and truck hasn't arrived and would come back and tell them that. Someone would for sure stop what they were doing and march back there with you. Cause they totally would think you would be lying or something. Which is dumb, because why would you lie about getting the truck? Who wants to waste time getting that stuff put away and get on to something else? I just don't get it.
