4 a.m.? How small is your department? My DH comes in at around 6 or 7 a.m. but unless it's inventory time or something special is going on like a particular walk. He doesn't EVER come in earlier than his usual 6 or 7 a.m. And he is always out by noon on Sundays and 2 or 3 during the rest of the week.
We are a marketplace store. She has 2 backups in the deli and I am also a back up but I am bakery only. She only ever works deli. Store manager just made the decision that no dept. head was allowed in before 6.
what time does your deli or bakery department head usually come in. My deli department head seems to think she needs to work at 4 am everyday.
Most of you won't agree with me on this, but I think it is a great thing and a PLUS for any department head to be in the store as early as possible. Count your blessings that she is in at 4 AM! Sounds like she takes her job more seriously than the average DH. I would also say SHAME on any manager (or rule-maker of whatever job description) that INSISTS that no dept head come in earlier than 6, or 7. It should be left up to the dept head, if, for instance,on certain busier days she is needed to take care of extra work.
Of course, there may be "ulterior" motives, such as, she wants to be out of the store earlier because she has other commitments pressing on her, but without knowing the exact circumstances in your particular store, and whether she is really a conscientious and hard worker, its hard to make judgements........
i have worked here for 20 years and none of the department heads I have worked under have come in any earlier than 5.mine seems to only care about the deli, as if the bakery doesnt exist unless the cooridnator is there for waste integration. And she and her buddy, one of other backups, dont need to both be in at the same time. That leaves no one to supervise the deli after noon. The other backup is on medical leave right now. And when you need one of them you can never find them because they are sitting on their butts for an hour at a time or both checking their email at the same time. They even run trash out together. She can be a hard worker but things have gone down hill quickly.
The store manager decided that no department head or back up was allowed in at 4 anymore because the departments fall apart in the late afternoon and evenings and are not set back up correctly until the next morning. Her excuse is that they dont have time to fill at night so she needs to be in before the store opens. The bakery is always a wreck every morning but it is only me and the baker, usually until 1. And I double as floor setter and cake decorator plus putting the truck away. There are at least 4, sometimes 5 people in at 6 am in deli including her. with that many people they should have no problem getting the floor set on time. They also have a bistro person iN the mornimgs too. We just did our regrand opening in december into a marketplace. They expanded both the deli and bakery but we arent getting enough hours to be able to run like we should.
I work 8-4 on my days, with 1-9 in there once a week.
Lately I've had to bake twice a week though so I do have to come in at 3am those days.
OP here. I have to cover baking shifts during vacations and when the other 2 that know how to bake need the same day off. Management doesnt like it since Im a backup, but it cant be helped. My usual shift is 6-2 dung the week and 5-1 on weekends. We dont have competent enough people for me cover my day shift so I can work a night shift. It would help if they would hire people that are willing to work so I dont start out in a mess every morning.
Our heads all come in at 7 except for dairy and produce at 5, groc at 6, and .... yeah thats it. Kroger has been wanting dept heads in later for customers instead of earlier for crews/work. Honestly, I could care less when people come in so long as they arent abusing their scheduling powers.
