What is your current position?

Some people start as Courtesy clerks.  If they do a good job, sometimes they are asked to work as a clerk in different departments.

After you have been working for a year or so, you start learning more and more tasks for your job.  If you are good enough,

you can be in charge when your Department Manager is on vacation.  That is what the back-up does.  The back-up used to make the same pay as the Department manager for that week.  But, that was changed during the last contract here.  They are still paid extra but differently.  Instead of making $4 more an hour for a week, they make $1 more an hour all the time.

Most people start off as part time.  You sign bids to become full time.  Benefits, guaranteed 40 hours, and all the other fun stuff that comes along with it.

They are normally posted in the store break room.  Ask someone in the store where they are posted.

Used to be for Grocery.  Dept head makes $19.  Back-up makes $15.  $16 if hired before 2004.  Now, back up makes $1 more per hour all year long.

Michigan Division 18.  Not mentioning District.

That's crazy there's like a dollar difference between Dept heads and asst here in Colorado. I'm making $20.41 and my asst are making $19 something, would be nice if there was a $4 gap for all the B's we deal with.

In Atlanta, the gap is wider than $4, I assure you. I'd love to be making close to what my Dept. Head makes. But I get his full relief pay when he's on vacation.

Wouldn't know nothing about bids, though. Within less than a year I went from stocking to department backup.

There is no official back up for Frozen. Being the produce assistant department head would be a substantial raise, if youre not maxed out.

Unless youre at a tiny store I dont see why they would promote someone to ADH from outside the department. At least in my division you have to take the ADH classes, do the on the job training generally at another store, do all the computer training, then finally have the Produce Coordinator evaluate and approve you..... before youre title/pay would change

I know, i get so confused when i see all these "which department is better" type things, acting like you can just choose to be a department head of whatever department fancies you that day depending on how you feel. biggrin

I had to go to Cincinnati for a month for training classes, go to another store for training and then wait a couple months for a position to open before being transferred upon approval by my coordinator. I heard the classes aren't being done anymore, but you still have to be chosen by your coordinator at least.
