Hey all! For starters, I just want to say that I love reading your posts because it lets me know I am not the only one in pain. Now more to my topic, recently my Lead and department heads told us that hours were being cut and that this was from high up in corporate. When asked why they just repeated the same response and adding that this was company wide. So now I am asking you if hours have been cut in your divisions? Or is this JUST at my store.
Your can have my hours I have been working 39 hours for 5 weeks straight Have not had a day off in over a week.
Why are they working you so much, when many stores have been getting hours cut, in at least some, if not all, depts?
Not enough help, and you have to fill in for others? No one wants to apply for your position? The job fairs are not getting good results? Someone is out sick or on extended leave of some kind?
I was told they are getting stingy on hours but will cut the new guy if it comes to cutting hours. But Im on night crew and they cant afford to loss any of the full timers. To hard to replace.
Haven't heard any mention of hours being cut of late in my store. However, more times than not I've also heard from peeps I'm cool with, that they have been letting part-timers have like 3 days or so off, back to back. While, I'm full-time and have been working 8 days straight this week into next(they bumped my days off to Sn and Mon).
Hours are being cut every where. If you feel this is discrimination make a fuss about it legally. Management can not ignore a hand written letter. Typed can easily be changed. Say for example, I was involved in a car accident which brought light to another health issue I had never heard of. It put me on health restrictions and I was removed on the schedule for weeks. This is discrimination.
If you have restrictions that would cause you not be able to perform your duties, normally associates are taken off the schedule. If you have a restriction saying you cant stand for more then 15 mines, how can you really do any tasks in the store? Its like a medical doctor having a phobia of touching patients.....finds hard to perform your duties if your restrictions go against the job description. Hours were not "officially" cut every, but they change the "labor standard" or a performance improvement is initiated, resulting in a lower labor forecast according to Corp. If you ask people unofficially hours are cut!! Bakerchick, with more prepacked or no-bake product, hours will be gradually decreased. Stores with SBG/FET will eventually see less and less ......Meat Department with prepacked beef.....less and less
At my store, hours are being cut so bad that management is starting to panic.
I'm a cashier trying to finish school, so fewer hours would really be great for me. Everyone else is having a bad time.
The departments are getting hit pretty hard. Produce is getting absolutely brutalized. We have some really great folk there, so they could almost scrape by. Except, our front end doesn't have hours either, so produce spends large parts of their day cashiering instead. Turnover is so bad they are the only department left with cashier training. It would be funny if I didn't like the produce folk.
The only way it can go now is turnover for the produce department. Their department is trashed at all times since they don't actually get to work there. This alone results in writeups, although they tend to just quit after the first one or two. Long time employees are able to flee to other departments. Some of the new guys are right at the brink of quitting just because it's so goddamn miserable.
