Are there no "rules" when it comes to being the backup but not getting the backup pay rate? I know they like to see if a person is going to work out but can they just keep you in the position without a raise for as long as they want?

Unless your store is different than ours, when you get promoted to assistant department head you should start making an extra $0.50 per hour. Check your contract book. Have you asked them why your pay hasn't been raised?

yes you get an extra 50 cents an hour but you lose 25cents as  a meat specialist  so in my store your Making  15.75 then you dont get any more money until you do everything it takes to qualify as a back up.........6-12 months of work

If you got the back up Job , your the back up assistant manager.......but its up to you to earn or lose the job by working and doing all thats required to be a back up  , you should have a year to get all the work done you need to do

Isn't it awesome that Kroger gets a year or so of cheap(er) labor out of new department heads & back-ups, not paying you for the job you're doing until you're "certified"/"qualified"! #ourpeoplearegreat #feedthehumanspirit #uplifteveryway #everyonefriendlyandcaring

I hate to say it but in my division it seems they are getting rid of the ADH program. They havent announced classes in almost a year. So theyre probably trying to phase it out.

I originally wanted to be a produce ADH... never announced the classes. So i asked my manager if I could be Nutrition Lead. I got certified by the grocery coordinator and they still wouldnt change my title/pay. District HR told me since my store is getting integrated, Nutrition is going away and what I was doing was just general clerk work to my face. I filed a grievance on the spot, and I told management Im just going to do general clerk work. Im not changing endcaps, ordering extra and keep on top of the ads for stuff like free Friday downloads and other stuff. Why should I care about standards walks or waste integration?

Low and behold six months later my store still isnt integrated and I have 6 months of back pay.

If theyre not going to promote you dont take on responsibilities that arent yours.

I've been the grocery adh for 3 months but no raise (9.25 an hour). I kinda feel like they just want me to keep doing the work while getting a discount. I didn't even want a management position but since it was the only spot on the night crew they were looking for I had no choice. I'm under the impression that certification is required to get the minimum pay rate of the position but that means a ways to go before any more $$$.

Classes must be a union thing. Non-union here, got my ADH job just like any job. Moved up from a lead job. No classes or nothing, in fact I didn't even get any training. Just knew what to do because it's mostly common sense. My pay went up nearly $2 from lead to ADH and was $4+ higher than regular clerks in my department.

Hell, I got coded in the position and received about a month and a half of retro pay. Unless it's different in other/union divisions, all management has to do is contact HR and get you put as that position, then you get the proper pay scale. So get on management for not getting that done. Three months is too long and I damn sure wouldn't do that job for $9.25

Dallas Districts 10/12/10 (again) have been horrific about the proper, timely upward adjustments in pay for associates who've earned it through promotions.  It's so prevalent, I've wondered if it's an actual business strategy.  Sure, you get retro pay . . . eventually . . .  but you just floated an involuntary, interest-free loan to a mean corporation that sells $120 billion of groceries a year.  As long as the company continues this practice, I will always indicate "unethical" on the associate insights survey.

This was my life for about 6 months or so. I was recognized and treated as a bakery back up. My first store just had a bakery manager and no back up and I knew how to order so they basically gave it to me. I was just waiting until the next set of training classes came around. I did have days that I just didnt care and didnt want to do ordering because I wasnt getting paid for it. However, this was great training for me cause I learned how to set ads, inventory and ordering etc. My coordinator was really impressed with my knowledge.. Also in my division (dallas) we dont get the pay until we go to classes and get the certification.

What about Atlanta Division? How often are classes held?

I work in the Atlanta division.  As far as I know there are NOT any classes for ADH positions.  Or atleast I didn't have to take any when i took the back-up Drug/gm position 2 years ago.  I went directly from a full-time clerk to back-up and my pay reflected it in 2 weeks.  I went from making less than $8 a hour to maxed out in 1 year. ($15.90 now)  It's a great way to increase your pay faster than the 10 cents every 6 months.

I talked to my store manager and he said I couldn't make any more money because the company doesn't have adh classes anymore. I'm not sure I believe that because who would take the assistant manager position if it doesn't pay more?

ADH classes? Been with the company for 20 plus years and Ive never heard of them. If someone in my store or area is worth a ****, they get promoted when theres an available spot.

What do the classes teach? Any stocker should know the fundamentals of the scan gun which is really 75% of the job
