I live in Georgia-never heard of this and management doesn't seem to care. I buy them from time to time at Customer Service and at the automatic machine near our accounting office

RE: Someone told me it was illegal for employees to purchase lottery tickets out of the automatic dispenser in our store
They lied. Either that or they're misinformed. The only people that I know of that can't buy lottery tickets are the people who actually work for the lottery.
They lied. In my store employees buy them all the time I see some buying them every day, its definately not illegal lol. Even Ive bought them from time to time.
I would believe more that it would be against store policy or some rules but certainly not illegal. Employees have just as much of a legal right to purchase these tickets as customers do. IF not then this would be a huge problem of discrimination. I can assure you it is not against store policy either, or any rules. With that said, it may not be wise to purchase them while on the clock. But even that should not matter as long as you are on break or something. Really it depends on the leniency of your managers. But whoever told you that was lying, dogg.

We are not allowed to buy lottery tickets at our job. You can cash them in but you cannot purchase. This may vary from state to state. This is Indiana. The question becomes what if you purchase a big winner. To me that would be suspicious that you got a big winner ticket and you work at that store.
You can legally purchase them from the self serve machine. The casher is a computer. Legally we are not buying them our selves. It's like saying we can't use self check on the clock for a water bottle. It's legal.
