So I got transferred to another store. Once I got there I noticed a few things are different. I've worked for Kroger for almost 2 years. So I know Kroger Policies. When I show that I know how to do the job, the others are intimidated by me and talk. If I ask questions, they roll their eyes, make ignorant comments, and act as if I'm bothering them. I don't even know how to respond to people anymore. They act like they want to be in charge, but the minute you allow them to be, they act as though it's a problem. I can't even ask where something is without an eye roll or childish comment.

lol. What department?
Yes, every store in the nation is supposed to be standardized to be exactly the same. That is supposed to be achieved thru key retailing, 5S etc. We are supposed to be able to walk into any
store in the nation, be given simple directions and be able to crank thru work.
It looks good on paper like all ideas. But doesn't work for every situation. So, key retailing standards are tweaked from store to store.
Do everything they way your department manager says to do things. Do not try to correct coworkers until they know you better and get used to you.
If a store manager tells you to do something a certain way, do it how they say to.
Examples:
I had one store manager that insisted that Kroger water 24 packs must be hand stacked in the entrance. Took up the same space as a pallet but he didn't want there to be a pallet. 84 cases transferred from a pallet to the floor! ;)
(The proper way to stock a shelf with cans is to fill first level from back of shelf to front of shelf. Fill second level from back of shelf to front of shelf and so on.)
Had a district manager that didn't want to see peg boards on the back of the shelf. It didn't make sense to have 50 cans of Asparagus to cover the peg boards when you might sell 2 a month. So, to keep the peg board out of sight, we would always leave cans stacked in the back of the shelf even if first level was not full.
Had another store manager proclaim that every single can must be double block faced every night. That means two deep forward on the first level and then double stacked.
Right now, our District managers are pushing floor stacks in the aisles. Our store manager does not like aisle stacks. It irritates customers to have to dodge everything.
I have an employee that worked 2 months at another store. I am slowly breaking his time wasting procedures that he was taught at other store.
It is hard to train people that come from Meijer or walmart to do things the Kroger way. Takes forever to change their habits and still don't change all of them.
I'm slowly learning Kroger Way isn't necessarily true in every Kroger. I wonder what EcoLab and other inspectors see when they go from store to store. It's crazy!
